Develop rotating exhibitions for the North & South Santiam Galleries that explore art, craft, and design. Curate exhibitions that further elevate the reputation and recognition of Linn Benton Community College. Establish a dynamic learning environment within the Galleries that supports artistic excellence, diversity, and freedom of expression. Mentor students in gallery management and professional development. Coordinate and curate an annual student artist development grant and showcase in Chinook Hall (Corvallis campus).
Required Qualifications:
Education and Experience: Position requires an associate’s degree in Art, Art History, or Design, plus a minimum of two years as a gallery coordinator or related experience. Additional related education may be substituted for experience.
Knowledge and Skills: Requires a thorough understanding of differing artistic styles and media. Requires personal computer and word processing skills. Requires good organizational, planning, communication, customer relations and phone skills. Requires knowledge of appropriate mounting apparatus. Necessitates excellent problem-solving skills, flexibility, and collaboration with diverse artists. Requires the ability to manage a budget and work within the means of the College. Requires excellent time management skills, including working under deadlines. This position requires the ability to work flexible hours including mornings, evenings, and weekends.
Abilities: Must be able to independently perform the duties of the position efficiently and effectively. Must be able to work and collaborate with Student Gallery Coordinators, work study students, and Art students and faculty. Must be able to create aesthetically pleasing artwork displays. Must be able to prioritize and organize tasks in order to meet schedules and timelines. Must be able to work in a shared/open space office environment. Requires the ability to communicate formally and informally with a wide range of contacts both inside and outside the College. Requires the ability to operate general office equipment including computers, word processing and design applications used at the College.

A bachelor’s or master’s degree in Art History, Art, Design, Art Education, or Arts Management. Experience mentoring students in professional development and/or exhibition design. Knowledge of contemporary art and experience working with diverse artists.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
Requires the ability to operate a computer keyboard or other office equipment. Requires ability to read words and numbers. Requires the ability to sufficiently carry on routine conversations in person or over the phone. Lifting of light to medium weight objects (10 – 50 pounds). Requires ability to climb stairs and ladders. Requires ability to use hand tools.
Work is normally performed in an office and gallery setting. Safety hazards include the risk of falling from a ladder or stairs while carrying equipment. Use of sharp cutting tools and handling glass could create a hazard for skin wounds. Some evenings and weekends or irregular hours are required. Approximately 30 hours a term for three academic terms per year, plus an additional 60 hours of curatorial work for the student artist development grant and showcase in Chinook Hall (Corvallis campus).
Travel between
LBCC
campuses will be required. Employee transportation between Albany and Corvallis LBCC galleries will be minimal, but required in this position. Mileage reimbursement is available on days where travel between campuses is required.
Essential Duties:

2. Curate one exhibition each term including a student art exhibition each spring.
3. Collaborate with colleagues to hold an annual fundraiser event.
4. Integrate research and educational information into easily accessible gallery didactics, lectures, and public receptions.
5. Develop, with the department chair and dean an annual curatorial budget, fundraising goals, and a multi-term exhibition calendar.
6. Partner with Art Faculty and professional artists in the preparation of exhibition installation schedule and exhibition design.
7. Create marketing materials and share them with appropriate audiences.
8. Teach professional practices to emerging artists and arts professionals through workshops on framing, installation, and use of artist contracts.
9. Manage administrative aspects of exhibitions, including preparation of contracts, exhibition inventories, and registration duties such as preparing loan forms, condition reports, and organizing transportation and storage logistics.
10. De-install exhibitions, coordinate return of artwork, and repair gallery spaces.
11. Work collaboratively with staff and students to ensure gallery goals, objectives, and deadlines are met.
12. Maintain active relationships with artists, community members, lenders, donors, and professional colleagues.
13. Build partnerships that enhance community engagement.
