Job description
The primary objective of this position is to assist the Public Works Utilities department with obtaining asbuilt construction information on various construction projects during the 2023 construction season. This position will work in conjunction with another intern and city GIS/utility staff to monitor construction and gather GPS field data of sanitary sewer, water, storm sewer and other utility related facilities on various city and private development projects. Duties may also include assisting GIS staff with data entry, mapping updates, and other GIS related functions.
This is a seasonal summer position that may include the opportunity to work into the fall school term, if schedules allow. The position is subject to a background/driver's license check.
- GPS survey data collection of sanitary sewer, water main, storm sewer and other critical utilities as they are constructed.
- Ability to manage and prioritize time across various projects.
- Willingness to work overtime, including weekends, if needed.
- Assist utility and GIS staff with geographical information systems (GIS) mapping
Minimum Job Qualifications:
A commitment to and belief in the organization's shared values.- Currently enrolled in an accredited college/university/technical GIS, Civil Engineering or Engineering Tech program.
- Valid driver's license.
- Minimum of one year completed in an accredited college/university/technical GIS, Civil Engineering or Engineering Tech program.
- Experience in some aspects of GIS and GPS mapping.
- Experience with construction or construction observation.
- Experience with sanitary sewer, water or storm sewer utility systems.
- Excellent technical skills.
- Excellent written communication skills.
- Customer service experience.
