Job Summary:
FOCUS Broadband has an opening for a GIS Technician. GIS Technician prepares, maintains, and revises maps, drawings, tracings, and databases for the Engineering Department. Utilizes Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Computer-Aided Design (CAD), and various other mapping software, Microsoft Office, to prepare layouts, construction materials lists, detail drawings, reports, and maps. Prepares working construction plans and complete drawings, working from detailed Engineering sketches. A GIS Technician will develop and maintain paper and digital filing systems for copies of engineering drawings and related materials. This opportunity includes using a third-party map system and database information required for regulatory reporting in a fast-paced, productive environment.
Requirements:- Utilizes ArcGIS, CAD, Windows Office, mapping, or database systems to prepare, draft, and maintain layouts, working plans, detail drawings, maps, construction sheets, Continuing Property Records (CPRs), and other related specification sheets or required data-specific reports.
- Ensures drawings, maps, and work prints are readily accessible.
- Posts, updates, and maintains a database of maps, cable counts, CPRs, customer services descriptions and availability, and other necessary data, including 3rd Party external maps, data, and databases for regulatory reporting for FCC, Broadband, CATV Franchise, and NC811, as required as part of ongoing records maintenance, including as-builds after construction.
- Generates maps, materials lists, and work orders and distributes job packages to proper personnel.
- Interacts professionally and courteously with prospective customers, visitors, and vendors. Works positively and cooperatively with co-workers.
- Demonstrates knowledge and expertise of the company’s policies, procedures, and confidentiality guidelines and supports the company’s overall mission.
- Knowledge of computer-aided drafting design principles, practices, and mapping software, including ESRI GIS (ArcMap, NetDesigner extension), AutoCAD, and CableCAD.
- Knowledge of company policies and procedures
- Good verbal, listening, and written communication skills.
- Keeps abreast of new technologies and techniques that increase efficiency.
- Skill in prioritizing, completing multiple projects, identifying problems, and finding resolutions.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Technical degree in Drafting, GIS, or equivalent training/experience preferred.
- Strong Drafting and/or GIS technician skillsets required.
- 5-Years’ Experience using ArcGIS Desktop
- Maintains a current and valid driver’s license to perform the duties of this position.
