Job description
The Department of Geology is seeking to hire a graduate student assistant needed to conduct Hydrology research at the Angelo Coast Range Reserve and to help lead an undergraduate Hydrology Research Experience. The purpose of this project is to encourage undergraduate students to pursue careers in Hydrology by exposing them to authentic career relevant learning experiences and helping them to develop a sense of belonging within the Hydrology community.
Conditions of Employment
This is a part-time, temporary, non-benefited, student position. Employment in all positions with University Enterprises, Inc. is dependent upon the mutual consent of University Enterprises, Inc. and the employee. This means that either University Enterprises, Inc. or the employee can, at any time, terminate the employment relationship at will, with or without cause.
UEI does not allow employees to hold more than one UEI Job at a time, or work in more than one college or center per pay period. UEI employees who are considering leaving their current UEI position for a different UEI posting should inform their supervisor in writing and provide at least a week’s notice.
Depending on the type of position you are applying for, a pre-employment background check consisting of one or more of the following may be conducted: employment history, professional references, criminal check: educational verification (i.e., degree, license, or official transcript), DMV clearance. Applicants will be required to pass required pre-employment checks to the satisfaction of University Enterprises, Inc. (UEI) and the hiring Agency or Department.
UEI is not a multi-state employer. UEI only employs candidates who live and work in the state of California. If selected for the position, you must reside in California and all work must be performed in the state of California.
Prerequisites
Must be a Sac State student enrolled in at least six-semester units (undergrad) or four-semester units (graduate) students.

Work Schedule
F lexible workdays and work hours, Monday – Friday, between 8 AM – 5 PM. Final work schedule to be determined by supervisor.
Additional Work Schedule
Student Assistant and Graduate Assistant employees generally work up to 20 hours per workweek (Sunday – Saturday) during the academic year and up to 40 hours per workweek during breaks; (winter, spring & summer).
M inimum Qualifications
- Current status as Graduate Student in the Geology Department.
- Must have basic computer knowledge/skill in Outlook, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint and Adobe Acrobat.
- Good organizational skills.
- Problem-solving and analytical skills.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Help organize equipment and meals for Hydrology Field Experience.
- Attend summer field experience in the Angelo Coast Range Reserve. This is a 10-day trip to the Eel River Critical Zone Observatory. Working conditions include hiking in rough terrain, wading in shallow rivers, and camping in rustic cabins.
- Teach undergraduate students Hydrology field techniques.
- During the fall semester, attend Hydrology Research Experience class Tuesdays 10:30-11:45 am to help guide student research projects using data collected during the summer field experience.
Physical Requirements
Hike in rough terrain, sit for extended periods; frequently stand and walk; manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination; corrected hearing and vision to normal range; verbal communication; use of office equipment including computer workstations, telephones, calculators, copiers, printers, and scanners with or without reasonable accommodation.
Working Conditions
Work is performed in an office, field and remote environment.
