About the role

This is an exciting opportunity for a graphic designer to join our in-house Design team. This is a fast-paced role for a highly motivated and creatively minded graphic designer to join an experienced, friendly, and supportive internal Design team. Supported by the Design Manager, you will be expected to work proactively, always seeking out new ways of developing the existing brand, to ensure we remain competitive in the field.

This is the ideal opportunity to develop an existing creative skillset and for a motivated individual to express their passion for creativity in line with our overall marketing strategy. The post holder needs to be able to demonstrate adaptability, resilience, and the ability to manage a range of creative projects for a broad range of printed and digital channels, working to new briefs, as well as content amends to existing artwork for internal clients.

On appointment the job title for this position will be 'Designer'.

Principal accountabilities

  • Full creation of all design assets used to promote the university to our target audiences, both external and internal facing. From high quality idea generation, thorough to finished product on a range of projects. Projects could include but are not limited to: Brand evolution, brand campaigns, prospectus production (printed and online), social media campaigns, event work, and a range of printed and digital collateral for use in and around the institution
  • Answering client briefs, from idea generation through to artwork, proofing and set up for final production or implementation
  • Set up, manage, and archive accurate artwork files to ensure they can easily be shared/accessed and amended in the future
  • Ensure all work leaving the studio is on brand and meets appropriate print and web standards, and working in collaboration with the rest of the team to ensure consistency of design across all media
  • Working on continuous improvement of the brand and team processes
  • Be involved in creative sessions, used to distil ideas from clients

Essential Criteria

Qualifications

  • Relevant degree (or equivalent qualification) in a design related subject, or relevant comparable work experience

Experience

  • Proven experience in a design led environment, ideally 3+ years with a portfolio of recent work to demonstrate style and ability across multiple platforms and mediums
  • Exceptional working knowledge of the Adobe Creative Cloud, particularly InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator
  • Experience leading on visual campaigns, from concept through to artwork
  • Experience working in collaboration with stakeholders of varying levels, as well as with other members of the Design team
  • Experience in delivering thought provoking ideas across a range of mediums, and sharing these ideas to inspire the collective creativity of the rest of the team

Skills, knowledge & abilities

  • Ability to work efficiently under pressure on several potentially high projects at any given time
  • Highly organised with the ability to respond to briefs quickly and accurately
  • Ability to develop brand awareness and maintain brand consistency across all projects, and be empowered to challenge if you are being asked to work in a way that may be damaging to the brand
  • Ability to demonstrate a passion for conceptual thinking
  • Proficient in artwork set up for print (we have an internal print department who work with a framework of 3rd party suppliers too)
  • Proficient artwork set up for web and social channels (we have separate teams for implementation of both)
  • Be a brand guardian, being alert to marketing communications across the business and calling out anything that isn’t on brand, never walk past less than the best!

Business requirements

  • Ability to work out of hours on occasion, particularly at events

Desirable Criteria

Qualifications

  • Relevant degree (or equivalent qualification) in a design related subject, or relevant comparable work experience

Experience

  • Knowledge or experience in other Adobe Creative Cloud applications such as After Effects or Premier Pro
  • Experience with photography and video editing
  • Experience with animation or motion graphics would be beneficial
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications
