The Part-time Streetcar Motorperson will operate light rail trains and vehicles in a safe and timely manner according to Authority safety standards and prescribed schedules.
This position is eligible to receive a sign-on bonus of up to $7,500. Bonuses are paid out in two installments: $4,500 after completing 90 days of service, and $3,000 after the completion of one year of employment.
- Observe signals systems according to Authority guidelines.
- Assume responsibility for the safe conduct of passengers in emergency situations.
- Prepare accident reports, vehicle and wayside defect reports when necessary and distribute to the proper Authority personnel.
- Assist line officials in rectifying problems with his/her streetcar that would impede or disrupt service.
- Report for duty on time and remain on duty for the duration of a scheduled work shift.
- Assist in the safe evacuation of passengers from his/her train when emergency conditions warrant this action.
- Work under occasional supervision.
- Follow the MBTA guidelines and procedures.
- Refer any problems or unusual occurrences to their supervisor.
- Respond to any inquiry, whether from a customer, vendor, or a co-worker in a courteous and professional manner.
- Be familiar with the MBTA Safety Plan as well as the Part-time Street-Car Motorperson job responsibilities as outlined.
- Work any and all shifts and/or locations as assigned or directed.
- Respond or report to work as directed by supervisory personnel for emergencies, extreme weather conditions or any other abnormal conditions that impair service to the safety of service, twenty-four (24)hours per day, seven (7) days per week.
- Adhere to the rules, regulations, collective bargaining agreements (if applicable) and policies of the Authority including the EEO, Anti-Discrimination and Anti-Harassment and Anti-Retaliation Policies.
- Perform duties and projects as assigned.
- Possession of a high school diploma or equivalent.
- Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age.
- Ability to successfully complete validated selection exam.
- Possession of a valid driver's license for at least three (3) years.
- A satisfactory driving record for at least three (3) years prior to the date of hire.
- Applicants must upload a copy of their most recent unattested driving record.
- A satisfactory non-renew display for tickets report from the Massachusetts Registry of Motor Vehicles.
- Ability to pass selection interview.
- Ability to accept assignments to any Light Rail line as determined by the Authority.
- Meet the qualifying standards for the classification of Part-time Streetcar Motorperson.
- Ability to pass a Criminal Offender Record Information (CORI) check, background screening, and the MBTA's medical requirements, including a physical examination and drug and alcohol screening.
- For applicants who have worked for employers regulated by the United States Department of Transportation within the previous two (2) years, the ability to pass additional drug and alcohol review based on information received from those employers.
- Ability to read, write, comprehend, speak and respond to instructions, posted signs, and inquiries in English.
- Ability to effectively communicate with customers, employees, and vendors.
- Successful completion of the required probationary period of 120 working days.
- Have a satisfactory work record for the two (2) years immediately prior to the closing date of this posting, including overall employment, job performance, discipline, and safety records (infractions and/or offenses occurring after the closing of the posting and before the filling of a vacancy may preclude a candidate from consideration for selection).
