Grounds Crew – Seasonal/Temporary

Two Positions Available


Hourly Non-Contract

FTE: 1.0 (may not work more than 5.5 months at 40 hours per week)
Anticipated Start: 04/03/2023

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
This position is not benefits eligible
Starting wage: $15.00 per hour (86-H)


Note:

May not be re-hired in any hourly, non-contract position in the district without a 6-month break in service

Employees returning to this position may be eligible for a $0.50 pay increase up to Grounds Crew level V of $17.00 per hour (86/H)


Purpose Statement

The Grounds Crew maintains healthy and attractive grounds area/s; protects against erosion; maintains grounds for assemblies and/or recreational activities (e.g. track, football, graduation, etc.); applies required pesticides; and ensures assignments are completed in a safe, proper and timely manner.


This position reports to the Area Supervisor, Grounds.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Ability to pass a fingerprint and criminal background check
  • Able to tolerate extreme temperatures of sun, heat, and cold
  • Able to work outside for duration of the work shift
  • Speak, read, write, and present professionally, analyze, and interpret English written and verbal communications


Preferred Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent OR 3 years of job-related experience
  • Valid Driver’s license and evidence of insurability


Essential Functions

  • Able to roll, push, pull, bend, reach, stoop, and lift up to 75 pounds regularly and up to 100 on occasion
  • Adapt to changing work priorities and work with frequent interruptions, as required.
  • Adhere to all district and safety procedures and policies
  • Communicate effectively with diverse individuals and groups of people while maintaining confidentiality and building positive working relationships with employees and stakeholders.
  • Flexibility to perform different tasks and assignments on a continual rotation
  • Maintain landscaping and athletic fields (e.g. mow, trim, prune, weed control, fertilize, drainage, seeding, etc.) to preserve grounds in a healthy, attractive and safe condition
  • Maintain regular and predictable attendance to fulfill job requirements efficiently and effectively.
  • Monitor landscaped areas, equipment, sprinkler systems and grounds (e.g. fields, parking areas, etc.) to identify repairs and/or replacement needs, maintain schedules and preventing erosion
  • Operate grounds equipment in a safe manner such as mowers, hand, and power tools, etc.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Participate in meetings, workshops, seminars, as assigned for the purpose of conveying and/or or gathering information required to perform functions.
  • Prepare documents and materials to provide written support and/or convey information
  • Recognize different species of vegetation to ensure that the care and extermination of specific types is appropriately enforced
  • Speak, read, write, analyze, understand, and follow written and verbal communication in English including grammar and punctuation; listen to, and understand information and ideas presented verbally or in writing.
  • Support a team environment by collaborating with own and other work units to effectively perform the duties of the position.
  • Work under limited supervision, utilizing time-management and prioritization strategies, accurately processing detailed information and meeting deadlines.


Working Environment

The usual and customary methods of performing the job’s functions require the following physical demands: some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally, the job requires 5% sitting, 80% walking, and 15% standing. This job is performed under temperature extremes and under conditions with exposure to risk of injury and/or illness.
