- Oversee the entire Cheer Program.
- Develop, monitor, supervise, and train student-athletes to cheer and uplift crowd.
- Build relationships with and a willingness to coach both beginners and advanced student-athletes.
- Instruct student-athletes in fundamental skills, strategies, and physical training necessary for them to realize a degree of individual and team success.
- Instruct and guide student-athletes to lead them to the formulation and enhancement of moral values, pride of accomplishment, acceptable social behavior, self-discipline, self-confidence and good sportsmanship.
- Cooperate in a timely manner with the School Athletic Office, and the District Athletic Department, in regard to pertinent information that might be required.
- Meet all requirements set forth by the District Board of Education and the Ohio Department of Education relative to the Coaches Tool Chest Trainings/Certification and Pupil Activity Permit.
- Follow CPS Policy as outlined in Coaches Handbook. Recognize the need to be aware of and implement all applicable administrative policies set forth by the District Board of Education, Superintendent of Schools, School Principals, Conference Leagues, and the Ohio High School Athletic Association (OHSAA).
- Check on the status of academic eligibility for all prospective student-athletes.
- Begin pre-season practices on the first day permitted for the sport.
- Model the behavior expected of our student-athletes, including timeliness to practices, being positive and enthusiastic, being respectful, and practice constructive criticism while upholding the disciples of the program.
- Set a positive example at all times while with student-athletes, be appropriately dressed at all practices and games, and develop respect through his/her example in appearance, behavior, language, and conduct at all times.
- Maintain suitable sideline conduct including the use of appropriate language at all times.
- Accept and profit from constructive criticism and suggestions for improving coaching performance.
- Participate in clinics and other available programs to improve performances and coaching.
- Participate in Schools Event (i.e., Awards Programs, Pep Assemblies, Athletic Boosters Meetings, etc).
- Show physical vitality and enthusiasm for the sport and use good judgment in decision-making.
- Is competent in techniques of the sport and student-athletes respond positively to directions given.
- Is well-versed and knowledgeable in matters pertaining to the sport.
- Is innovative in using new coaching techniques and ideas in addition to already proven methods of coaching.
- Ensure that team is well prepared for opponent(s).
- Provides motivation for student-athletes to meet/exceed their goals. Stress the value of acceptable personal behavior by each student-athlete. Actively promote good sportsmanship at all times.
- Maintain accurate inventory of equipment and supplies.
- Fundraising experience.
- Ability to motivate and inspire others.
- Ability to serve as a positive role model.
- Demonstrated knowledge of skills associated with this activity.
- Ability to work effectively in a multicultural environment.
- Tumbling experience desired.
- Ohio Secondary Teaching Certificate preferred.
- Successful participation in a similar activity in high school and/or college. Evidence of successful past coaching experience at the high school or college level is desired.
- Provide a satisfactory result on a County Police Records Check, State BCII Check, and FBI Fingerprint Background Check. Possess an Ohio Department of Education Pupil Activity Permit. Provide satisfactory completion of Coaches Tool Chest Trainings/Certification.
