Head of Merchandise Planning
CHANEL is looking for a Head of Merchandise Planning, Fashion to join our team in New York, New York. You will be responsible for leading the team, driving the strategy for merchandise planning, budget planning, forecasting and effective in-season inventory management for all Fashion product categories for US Boutiques, Wholesale and Lease verticals. This role is responsible for developing and implementing the strategic merchandise business plan supporting the Head of US Merchandising & MBR. This role will lead the inventory and financial planning process to maximize sales, profitability and optimize inventory levels to support our One Boutique One Story. The successful candidate will partner across cross-functional teams to establish processes, systems and collaborative relationships needed for the effective delivery, replenishment, sell-through and mark downs of merchandise across various categories.

Strategic Responsibilities:
  • Develop comprehensive merchandise strategy, budgeting and forecasting, and provide data-driven input derived from analysis of historical data, customer analytics, market conditions and client demands
  • Partner cross-functionally including global partners to develop and communicate division level financial merchandising plans that align with the company’s financial objectives through identifying future opportunities and trends to produce a competitive advantage and superior results
  • Foster a comprehensive understanding of how brand strategy translates to the financial and buy plans
  • Provide input to the Finance team to support accurate business forecasting and areas that can be leveraged to achieve cost controls and maximize profitability
  • Optimize merchandise inventory positions to maximize sales, profitability and achieve all operational targets (KPIs) for all product categories, while supporting brand vitality and image
  • Act as a change leader to support company initiatives, actively participate in strategic decision making, proactively challenge the status quo, present alternative approaches and highlight potential issues
Merchandise Planning Responsibilities:
  • Manage the timely creation, review and execution of the budget and open to buy plans, ensuring that they meet financial sales, margin and obsolescence expectations
  • Oversee the financial plans, class plans, flow and bottoms-up door and assortment plans that execute the merchandise strategy, capturing localization opportunities and maintaining financial accountability
  • Challenge the status quo and continuously improve related business tools, systems and methodologies to help deliver results in replenishment, distribution, allocation and inventory management
  • Partner with key stakeholders to build a collaborative planning process to increase visibility, drive performance, and achieve short and long-term company objectives
  • Lead and develop a strong, unified team by promoting a culture of inclusivity, empowerment, and accountability
  • Partner with global and local Supply Chain to optimize inventory allocation and shipment flow
  • Lead planning team in assessing and enhancing in-season replenishment

Position Logistics:
  • Bachelor's Degree required, MBA a plus
  • Minimum of 8 years leading a planning team
  • Minimum of 15 years of Financial or Merchandise Planning Experience with demonstrated results in driving a business and successfully leading a team
  • Strategic, pragmatic and results-oriented
  • Experience in Retail and Wholesale Planning; Lease experience a plus
  • Ability to lead, manage and inspire a team
  • Self-starter with entrepreneurial mindset. Comfortable with ambiguity
  • Outstanding communication skills with the ability to impact and forge strong relationships from executive to entry level
  • Luxury Fashion experience preferred
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, Advanced Excel and Power BI is a must (experience with Macros), experience with building tools preferred
  • Up to 15% travel (international and domestic)
The anticipated base salary range for this position is $185,400 through $295,000. Base salary is one component of the total compensation for this position. Other components [may/will] include additional compensation, benefits and perks.
