Job description
General Statement of Duties: Performs a variety of duties associated with the operation and management of the HRCA Pickleball Program in a variety of locations. Oversees the provision of on-court pickleball programming at the HRCA outdoor courts at Westridge as well as the Northridge and Southridge gymnasium courts; develops structures for and provides lessons, drills, programs, leagues, clinics, camps and tournaments to support member need and interest; monitors pickleball programming to ensure that on-court activities meet financial guidelines. Supports our Xplore scheduling software by providing information, and assisting in the development of systems to support on-court functions; assists in the professional development of Pickleball Professionals, Instructors and Aids; develops/maintains relationships with USA Pickleball and other Pickleball programs and services.
Supervision Received: Works under the supervision of the Tennis Team Leader.
Supervision Exercised: Responsible for the supervision of the pickleball teaching professionals, instructors, aids, volunteers and interns.
Examples of Duties: The following examples of duties are intended to be illustrative only and are not intended to be all inclusive.
- Defines, develops, and implements on-court pickleball activities in line with HRCA mission and values, the governing documents of the HRCA. Ensures programs and procedures are in compliance through ongoing evaluation of program areas and service delivery.
- Takes responsibility for on-court programming. Plans, organizes, implements and monitors pickleball programming including group and private lessons, leagues, clinics, camps, tournaments and socials. Organizes and implements adult and junior development programs. Follows all program safety guidelines.
- Provides pickleball specific training for the Pickleball Professionals, Instructors and Aides to display a professional appearance, proper on-court behavior, ball feeding techniques, as well as appropriate drills, games and consistency in teaching the various pickleball strokes.
- Promotes a team approach among the teaching staff, instructors, aids, and court-scheduling personnel; instills a positive attitude and approach in working with the greater HRCA team to achieve the organization mission and values.
- Supports the Xplore scheduling software. Provides information to assist in the implementation of a customer service model that enhances positive communication and support for all customers, both internal and external.
- Takes an active role in ensuring that financial guidelines for pickleball programs are met. Embraces and supports the operating principles of HRCA recreation programs to meet budget goals by covering direct costs as well as an indirect overhead allocation.
- Monitors program provision on an ongoing basis for compliance with established financial guidelines; ensures that fees are collected for private, on-court programming. Develops budget requests for programming as required for the annual budget process.
- Coordinates information and programs with other departments and service areas. Assists other program and facility areas as needed. If certified, this would include tennis lessons and/or drills as time allows. Maintains positive and ongoing relationships with the facilities teams in all four HRCA Recreation Centers to enhance service provision.
- Evaluates teaching staff and volunteers within the assigned program area according to established HRCA procedures. Maintains a presence in the pickleball programs that provides part-time employees with the opportunity to interact with their supervisor. Ensures that time sheets and necessary payroll functions for assigned staff are completed as required by the Tennis Team Leader.
- Promotes/markets pickleball programs through established relationships with USA Pickleball and the pickleball community, on-court customer service, and the provision of written information for monthly HRCA newsletter, web site, program flyers, and other promotional materials. Works with the Tennis Team Leader and the Community Relations Department to develop sponsorships for the Pickleball Program.
- Develops assigned portions of the pickleball section of the HRCA activity guide, ensuring that materials are developed and coordinated with adherence to deadlines and set standards.
- Takes responsibility for safe use and maintenance of program equipment. Completes tasks to ensure that equipment is used properly and maintained. Develops orders for equipment and supplies according to established procedures.
- Performs related duties as assigned and required.
- Promotes and represents Highlands Ranch Community Associations interests with the USA Pickleball through volunteer engagement.
Physical and Environmental Standards: Will be working in both an outdoor and indoor environment. Must be able to run, walk, stand, climb, bend, kneel, stoop, reach and lift, push or pull. The ability to talk and hear via the telephone and through face-to-face communication is needed. Vision requirements include near and far acuity. Upper body strength is a requisite to lift/move a maximum of 40 pounds unassisted and 60 pounds with assistance. EOE
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Knowledge of pickleball programs including leagues, tournaments, lessons, development programs, clinics, camps and special events for participants of all ages. Knowledge of Xplore scheduling software procedures and customer service functions. Ability to organize, manage and direct multiple divisions and perform multiple tasks. Computer literate. Ability to effectively communicate, both verbal and written, with internal and external customers. Pickleball instruction certification is required. Preference will be given to holders of IPTPA Level 3 and PPR Pro certifications. Must pass a Drug and Background check.
Education: Bachelors degree in a related field from an accredited four-year college or university is preferred.
Experience: Minimum of 3 years pickleball experience as a Pickleball Professional, including developing, teaching, monitoring and supervising pickleball programs.
