Role: Health and Safety Manager
Location: Rugby (flexible working - required in the office or at a TAAS site a minimum of two days each week)
Salary: £40,000 plus Car Allowance of £5,100

The Air Ambulance Service operates the national Children’s Air Ambulance and the local air ambulance services for Warwickshire, Northamptonshire, Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Rutland. The role of the Health and Safety Manager is to co-ordinate, support and advise the organisation on all aspects of health and safety within the Air Ambulance Service. You will establish, manage and monitor standards, processes, communications, training and systems to ensure all responsibilities associated with health and safety within the organisation are understood. There will also be recruitment in place to employ a Health and Safety Assistant in 2023, and you will be a part of that recruitment process.
Responsibilities:
- Own the organisation’s Health and Safety policy
- Be the organisations point of contact for Fleet related matters and manage the external contracts
- Ensure fire drills and fire alarms are correctly tested where installed across the whole portfolio
- Lead on creating a safe workplace environment over approx. 60 sites, at events and whilst on the road, where health and safety is respected and embraced
- Ensure the organisation meets its statutory obligations in all areas pertaining to health and safety at work
- Keep up to date with all aspects of relevant health and safety at work legislation and standards and communicate relevant changes to the business where relevant
- Ensure all health & safety policies and procedures are adhered to and regularly reviewed, updated and communicated/trained out
- Identify training needs and deliver or organise training where necessary. Ensure full and accurate health and safety and training records are maintained
- Ensure that all accidents and incidents are documented, investigated, and recommended improvements implemented
- Carry out (directly or externally managed) and review risk assessments for all work equipment and activities Including (not limited to) COSHH, fire risk assessments, site risk assessments, manual handling and lone worker assessments
- Ensure fire drills are undertaken and fire alarms are installed as required and tested correctly by the responsible person.
- Support all areas of the organisation (including but not limited to) fundraising, HR and property to ensure a joined-up approach in organisational objectives
- Be the organisation’s point of contact for Fleet related matters and manage the external contract, draft process and supporting documents to support drivers and Fleet
- Liaise with external health & safety authorities as appropriate
- Ensure the statutory reporting of accidents to the appropriate authority
- Support all areas of the organisation (including but not limited to) fundraising, HR and property to ensure a joined-up approach in organizational objectives.
- Ensure compliance across the portfolio and be stakeholders point of contact for concerns and queries.
Experience and qualifications
- The successful candidate will possess hold a NEBOSH Diploma in Occupational Safety and Health (or similar). In addition the NEBOSH National Certificate in Fire Safety and Risk Management would be a distinct advantage
- The successful candidate will be CMIOSH or working towards it (GradIOSH)
- Experience of working in a multiple site environment.
- A broad understanding of H&S in a Retail, Warehouse and office environments
- An ability to engage and influence stakeholders at all levels.
