Assess, develop, implement and evaluate health education, behavioral risk reduction, and health promotion programs and initiatives to influence individual and community behavior, policies, and environments.

Essential Job Functions
  • Collaborate with community partners to assess, plan, develop, implement and evaluate innovative and evidence-based strategies, programs and initiatives based on community needs, and for diverse populations, in order to improve overall community health.

  • Collaborate with community partners to establish goals, objectives, priorities, and performance measures, along with leveraging resources, for programs and initiatives throughout the community.

  • Develop outreach and educational materials.

  • Manage contracts and contract funds to assure deliverables are met.

  • Encourage healthy lifestyles through education and outreach activities to individuals, groups and/or the community as a whole.

  • Serve as a public health resource to individuals, schools and community agencies requesting information regarding various health education needs.

Ancillary Job Functions
  • Perform grant writing as needed.

  • Serve on departmental work groups as requested.

  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Education and Experience - An equivalent combination of education, training and experience will be considered
  • Bachelor’s degree in Health Science, Public Health or related field required. Master’s preferred.

  • Certified Health Education Specialist preferred.

  • Minimum of one year of relevant experience.

  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.

  • Must be registered with the Missouri Family Care Safety Registry.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities which may be representative, but not all-inclusive of those commonly associated with this position
  • Considerable knowledge of current principles, practices, and processes employed in health education.

  • Thorough knowledge of psychological, socioeconomic, and cultural determinants of health.

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access and basic office equipment/machines.

  • Ability to plan, implement, and evaluate health education and health promotion for diverse populations.

  • Ability to build and strengthen partnerships with local health leaders, schools, and community groups to establish goals, objectives, priorities, and performance measures.

  • Ability to prepare surveys and statistical reports.

  • Ability to learn and adapt to new trends in health education to reach out to diverse populations.

  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to assess needs of the community and specific target populations.

  • Ability to seek and obtain grant funds.

  • Ability to be trained in phlebotomy and specimen collection.

  • Ability to work with students who are training for future health careers.

Work Environment – Environmental or atmospheric conditions commonly associated with the performance of the functions of this job
  • May be exposed to inclement outdoor weather.

  • Exposed to hazardous bodily fluids when performing blood tests.

  • Exposed to moderate noise levels.

  • Must have clarity of vision and precise hand-eye coordination.

  • May be required to lift up to 50 pounds.

  • Regular attendance is a necessary and essential function.
