Your Specific Responsibilities:
This is a professional position involving statewide coordination of the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Training and Education programs within the Bureau of Emergency Medical Oversight (BEMO), EMS Section.
Processes EMS training program applications, conducts biennial (or as required) site visits to state and non-public colleges, vocational and technical centers, and other provider agencies to assess and determine the quality and appropriateness of their EMS training programs, and ensures their compliance with state laws, administrative codes, and other established standards, including coordination with the Department of Education and other regulatory and accrediting bodies. Serves as the subject matter expert for educational issues for all regional teams.
Conducts regional site visits with EMS providers assigned to establish a rapport, source of contact with the EMS Section, and a resource. Site visits will include regulatory compliance monitoring, quality improvement results of providers, sharing of resources available to the providers such as grants, upcoming training, access to QI data and other issues. Customer service excellence will be delivered throughout this process.
Reviews and processes EMS continuing education provider applications and courses in accordance with Florida Statutes (F.S.) and Florida Administrative Codes (F.A.C.). Provides both written and oral technical assistance to EMS training programs, EMS providers, EMS stakeholders, and other interested individuals and organizations.
Serves as EMS section’s grant workshop coordinator, TRAIN Florida learning management system coordinator, web training coordinator (monthly webinars) and the EMS leadership course coordinator / facilitator.
Coordinates the development and implementation of EMS training and education program goals and objectives within the goals of the EMS State Plan, EMS Advisory Council’s education committee, and the department.
Conceptualizes improved approaches to EMS training, education, and regulation. Develops long-term, intermediate, and short-term plans, goals, objectives and activities for EMS training and education.
Serves as an active participant in state and national organizations involved in setting standards for EMT and paramedic educational programs, including but not limited to, the National Association of Education and Professional Standards, National Registry of EMTs, Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs, CAPCE, American Red Cross and American Health Association.
Coordinates activities and plans with other units within the EMS section to ensure that their activities are mutually supportive and consistent with training and education goals and objectives.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of the Emergency Medical Services accreditation process.
- Knowledge of the National Registry of EMT certification process.
- Knowledge of principles of adult learning as it relates to Emergency Medical Services.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Applications.
- Ability to read, interrupt, and apply applicable EMS Florida Statutes and Rules.
- Ability to draft and propose policy, procedural, and rule changes.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED Equivalent required
- Valid Florida Driver License.
Valid State of Florida or Nationally Registered Paramedic certification is preferred.
