With oversight by the nurse manager/charge nurse, the Health Unit Coordinator (HUC) provides exceptional customer service to patients and visitors through welcoming behaviors, effective communication, and information sharing. This position independently performs clerical/receptionist functions on a patient care unit and facilitates communication between staff, patients, families and care providers, and between the unit and other hospital departments. This position also organizes and maintains unit supplies necessary for daily activities, prepares and maintains patient records, performs data entry into the computerized patient information system. The HUC serves as a resource person to medical staff regarding hospital protocols, simultaneously manages many activities impacting patient care, monitors patient electronic record to ensure care is progressing and prevent omissions or delay of order implementation.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
Experience: Previous experience or recent education (within one year) with office procedures and equipment. Computer experience and knowledge of medical terminology required. Previous customer service experience that included personal interactions both in person and on the phone, problem solving and skill in balancing needs of guests and colleagues alike is also required. Education or experience in health care field is preferred.
Additional Information:
56 hours per 2 week pay period. Every other weekend and holiday rotation required.
Monday-Friday shifts will be from 1:30pm-10:30pm.
Saturday-Sunday shifts will be 3:00pm-11:30pm.
