The Trumbull County Engineers office is looking for individuals who are seeking a career opportunity. These are entry level full time positions in our Highway maintenance department.

Job duties would include:

• Flagging traffic
• Patching potholes
• Cutting brush
• Cutting grass
• Painting lines on the road
• Plowing snow
• General maintenance work

New hires would need to go through pre-employment background check and drug screening.
New hires would also be required to obtain a commercial driver’s license (CDL) within six months. We provide the training, new hire pays for permit, testing, and license.
(approx.. $225)
Wages start at $16.42 per hour with an increase to $18.24 once they obtain the class B CDL. If you obtain a class A CDL, then $19.87. Top rate for the labor position is currently $21.26.

Job Description:

General Purpose: A manual labor position which requires the ability to perform and adapt to a variety of assignments while assisting with the routine maintenance, construction and repair of county roads, bridges, ditches and culverts.

Supervision Received: Works under general direction of the foreman assigned to, highway superintendent, assistant highway superintendent, and highway supervisors.

Supervision Exercised: None needed.

Essential duties and Responsibilities:

Duties will include (but are not limited to) flagging traffic paving, patching, brush removal, ice and snow removal from bridges and/or sidewalks, working closely with various types of equipment, machinery and tools;

Responsible for the quality of all work performed;

Responsible for safe maintenance and operation of any assigned vehicle.

Desired Minimum Qualifications:

High school diploma or equivalent;

Must possess a current valid Ohio Drivers' License;

Basic background in the use of all hand tools;

Must be in good physical condition;

Excellent past employment references.

Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Knowledge of safety rules and regulations and state laws pertaining to motor vehicle operations;

Ability to keep daily time record;

Ability to follow oral and/or written instructions and work well with others;

Tools and Equipment Used: Required to use any and all hand tools in a professional manner.

Physical Demands: The work of this position involves significant exposure to fumes, oil/grease, dust and occasional exposure to extremes in outdoor temperatures and weather conditions. Exposure to unfavorable health and safety factors in working conditions are occasionally present including such things as loud noise, moving equipment and machinery. The position requires physical exertion necessitating full and unrestrictive body movements and use of all limbs and major muscle groups. Employees in this position are required, for frequent and/or prolonged periods, to bend, stoop, squat, climb, reach, crouch , kneel, push, pull, lift and grasp. Normal vision and hearing acuity is required for safety and work related reasons due to the fact that the incumbent must manipulate tools and objects, exercise hand-eye coordination, work in close proximity to heavy motorized equipment and various power tools.

Work Environment: While performing the duties of this job, the work environment will include a shop/garage setting as well as on a job site where exposed to (including but not limited to) noise, dirt, grease, acid, vibrations, burns, dust and chemicals; other unfavorable health and safety factors are frequently present; most times will be required to work outside exposed to extremes in temperatures and adverse weather conditions, working in rain or snow storms during emergency situations.
