Job description
Operates heavy equipment to include, but not limited to backhoes and motor-graders. Works with a crew of maintenance employees utilizing proper maintenance techniques, while performing duties using manual labor during roadway and right-of-way maintenance activities. Areas of work may include, but not limited to, signage and pavement markings, driveway installation and maintenance, construction of drainage appurtenances, litter/debris removal, vegetation management, bridge maintenance, patching/paving, etc. Operates standard dump trucks whiles hauling materials, supplies and equipment to and from job sites. Flags traffic in low and high volume areas to control flow of traffic for the safety of the general public, workers and equipment during maintenance operations. Aids in the placement of traffic control devices in accordance with the MUTCD manual. Performs on-call duties as needed. Operates small equipment, power tools, and hand tools to perform assigned maintenance activities. Operates standard dump trucks with snow plow attachments and salt spreaders to remove snow and ice from roadways and bridges. Assists in emergency and inclement weather operations, may include being available for extended working hours or 12-hour shifts. Performs other related duties as directed by supervisors/Resident Maintenance Engineer.One (1) year of related work experience; or relevant experience may substitute for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis. Necessary Special Requirement: A valid motor vehicle operator’s license is required upon entry to the position. Requires attainment of a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within six (6) months of placement in the position.
