Our Pathology Team consists of 5 (including you) fun, creative, quirky, laidback and smart individuals. Our team (1 Pathologist, 1 Pathologist Assistant, 2 Histotechnologists and 1 Pathology Technician) work side by side in our boutique, quality driven lab. Your insight and opinions will be asked for, heard and sometimes rewarded with cookies. We are not a factory lab. Our Pathology team processes between 5500-6000 cases a year. No autopsies. No weekend shifts. We value work-life balance and having fun while producing quality work. Our lab actually has a wall of windows! A fish tank with 6 Guppies (born in our lab)! And plants! We recognize that it is important to like where you work.

General Responsibilities Include:

Reviewing daily slide quality

Processing

Cutting

Embedding

Instrument maintenance

Quality Control

Accessioning

Cytology Prep

Inventory maintenance

Frozen Sections

Staining

Fish tank Care

Other tasks as assigned

Both IHC and special stains are done at an outside facility but will be introduced in the future.

Job Summary

Receives and prepares tissue specimens for routine and special examinations. Performs complex histological procedures using techniques to gross, embed, perform microtomy, and stain to make tissue slides used for diagnosis. Responsible to review slide quality. Maintains and repairs lab instruments. Disinfects work area and stocks supplies. Ensures all lab safety, quality control and quality assurance standards are met. Will work with self-discipline and good judgment while following established standards of practice. Will be responsible for performing routine duties in all areas of the Histology Laboratory. May be required to interact with all ages of client population. Recognize responsibilities of other laboratory and health care personnel and interact with respect for their jobs and patient care. Keep abreast of new procedures in the department as well as changes in general hospital policy and procedures.

Qualifications

Appropriate education level based on certification required. Bachelor s degree preferred.

Possess a national certification as a Histology Technologist or Histology Technician from an approved Health and Human Services (HHS) agency, for example American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP).
