Histotechnician I

Location: Oro Valley, Tucson, AZ

Pay Rate: $25/hour paid weekly

JOB SUMMARY

Supports the functions of histology in the performance of routine histotechniques and maintains high level of professional expertise through familiarity with advances in histotechniques. Monitors work to ensure quality and continuously promotes quality first time. This job is second in the Histotech job series comprising five levels and the employee performs routine histotechniques. Within the R&D and Operations group, the employee receives detailed directions on all work and is assigned on projects of moderate scope in which analysis and data requires a review of identifiable factors. Within the CDx group, the employee performs job duties with general supervision.

RESPONSIBILITIES

•Within the R&D and Operations groups the employee:

- Performs routine histotechniques such as embedding tissue, microtomy and or cryotomy, H&E staining, coverslipping, special stains, IHC and ISH, and cell block preparation as applicable with direction. May perform grossing and tissue processing under direct supervision.

•Within the CDx group the employee:

- Performs grossing, tissue processing, cell block preparation, embedding, microtomy, and slide staining. Performs complex technologies and accessioning as required.

•Maintains complete and accurate records.

•Supports instrument and equipment maintenance and provides suggestions to improve work processes and laboratory equipment.

•May participate in cross functional technical activities.

•Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

H.S. Diploma - REQUIRED

Associates degree in laboratory science, medical laboratory technology, or major in Histology - preferred

1 year experience (intern or employment) in a histology lab performing histotechniques.

•Experienced in routine histotechniques

•Knows basic and some specialized laboratory techniques

•Skilled with use of word processing and email use.
