About the Position

The Billing Specialist for GHI provides oversight for daily financial operations of the Skilled Nursing, Home Health, and Hospice. This oversight includes accurate and timely prior authorization, charge entry assurance of compliance with third party payer regulations, and resolution of any problem billing. This position provides support and is responsible for coordination of both office and field staff in the operation and use of the MatrixCare and Wellsky computer system. This person also provides statistical reports and data analyses as requested. The position works under the general supervision of the Accounts Receivable Manager of GHI, but works with a large degree of independence.

Job Duties

  • Understands and reviews reimbursement policies and patterns for SNF, Home Health, and Hospice claims with third parties such as Medicare, Medicaid, and various other commercial payers.
  • Provides oversight over Home Health and Hospice program to maximize fiscal systems to solve billing or reimbursement problems
  • Follows up on claim denials and requests for additional information. Reviews reasons for denial; appeal to third party payers as necessary/
  • Lead worker within the SNF, HH, and Hospice to provide support and maintain responsibility for coordination of both office and field staff in the operation and use of the MatrixCare and Wellsky computer system.
  • Works with staff to conduct periodic audits
  • Provides support of other office functions as needed, including preparation of documents and reports, to support state, federal, and Joint Commission Accreditation Surveys

Job Requirements

  • Knowledge of Medicare, MA, HMO, and insurance coverage determinations for SNF, HH, and Hospice, including Medicare secondary payer information.
  • Knowledge of SNF, Home Health, and Hospice regulations, billing, and reimbursement requirements
  • 2 years of billing and reimbursement experience required. SNF experience preferred
  • High school diploma required, Bachelor's degree preferred
  • Basic understanding of ICD-10 coding concepts and resources
  • Proficient in medical terminology and abbreviations with previous experience in a skilled home preferred.
