Responsibilities
The Hospital Assistant 2 assists directly or indirectly with patient treatments and other patient care activities under the supervision of a licensed Therapist. This position will also perform non-patient care activities, such as providing support and staff training, occasional maintenance & housekeeping duties, and providing support services for ordering supplies in the system.
The Hospital Assistant 2 assists the Occupational and/or Physical Therapists with patient treatment and patient care activities for routine patients, as directed from a predetermined therapy treatment plan. This position must uphold rigorous Customer Service Standards providing professional patient care in an Acute Care setting. This position requires interaction in a collaborative way with physicians and staff, the clinics/departments, and other ancillary service and administrative departments.

Required Qualifications
  • Demonstrated recent experience/knowledge with hands-on patient care (i.e. Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, EMT, CNA, Rehab Aid, or Patient Transport/Lift)
  • Demonstrated basic computer skills and the ability/willingness to learn additional computer programs and systems (i.e. email, Excel, Word, MS. Office, etc.)
  • Advanced judgement skills
  • Verbal and written communication skills to effectively communicate with hospital staff in a clear, concise, professional manner
  • Skill in organizing written material
  • Knowledge of appropriate information required for patient and supply record keeping
  • Skills and ability to work in stressful situations
  • Tact and diplomacy skills
  • Ability to provide and accept guidance and criticism
  • Leadership skills
  • Must be able to perform all responsibilities as required and assigned by PM&R (Physical Medicine and Rehab) Leadership
  • Must see well enough to observe patient reactions and read relevant monitors, relevant device settings and relevant written information such as the patient medial record
  • Must hear and speak well enough to communicate with patients and staff throughout the day
  • Must possess the physical strength to assist with patient mobility
  • Must possess sufficient mobility to traverse the distances required and serve patients throughout the institution
Special Requirements
  • Must be able to work assigned weekends and holidays as determined by the department
  • Must be able to work in the Acute Care and Inpatient Rehabilitation settings, or any other UCDH site as needed
  • This position may be subject to a criminal background investigation, drug screen, Live Scan fingerprinting, medical evaluation clearance, and functional capacity assessment.
