JOB SUMMARY

The purpose of this position is to coordinate occupational safety training for hourly and salaried personnel at an automotive manufacturing research campus. The position would require that the candidate be comfortable presenting some classroom and practical training. The majority of the time will be spent coordinating, scheduling, and tracking training courses and initiatives.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide safety training coordination for salaried and UAW-represented skilled trades employees.
  • Work with UAW Safety Representatives and Company Safety Engineers to implement new and required safety training programs.
  • Deliver new-hire and transfer employee safety training.
  • Identify safety training needs and maintain instructor mix to keep all required programs current.
  • Support internal corporate safety processes.
  • Issue permits for equipment operators and ensure that the operators are current with medical surveillance and safety training, as required.
  • Coordinate local emergency response team training and exercises.
  • May act as a Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) subject matter resource.
  • Other duties may be assigned

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE

College degree preferred. Minimum 5 years of HSE related experience.

Fundamental knowledge of federal, state and local health and safety and environmental regulations is essential.

Experience working in manufacturing, construction, and facility maintenance/management is preferred.

COMMUNICATION SKILLS

Ability to comprehend and interpret instructions, short correspondence, and memos and ask clarifying questions to ensure understanding. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from clients, co-workers, and/or supervisor. Ability to effectively present information to an internal department and/or large groups of employees.


FINANCIAL KNOWLEDGE

Requires basic knowledge of financial terms and principles. Ability to calculate simple figures such as percentages.


REASONING ABILITY

Ability to understand and carry out general instructions in standard situations. Ability to solve problems in standard situations. Requires basic analytical skills.


OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES

Ability to follow detailed instructions and work with a sense of urgency. Ability to navigate a software database, working in Microsoft Excel, and be generally comfortable with using a computer.

Decisions made with general understanding of procedures and company policies to achieve set results and deadlines. Errors in judgment may cause short-term impact to co-workers and supervisor.
