Job description
The Human Resources Generalist will support the full scope of HR responsibilities and day-to-day activities, including onboarding/offboarding, file management, employee relations/engagement, recruitment efforts, performance management, team development, benefits/compensation functionality, company policy and procedure adherence, and providing back-up payroll and benefits administration support. In addition, he/she/they will assist the Director of HR in the implementation and rollout of key HR initiatives. The HR Generalist is a team player with a 'can-do' attitude, who is outgoing, polite, patient, diplomatic, personable, professional, and respectful. He/She/They will have a roll-up their sleeves mentally, be hands-on, highly visible, and available to staff.
This position is located in Hauppauge, Long Island (Suffolk County). The ideal candidate must be available to work Monday, Thursday, and Friday 9am - 5:30pm, and Tuesday and Wednesday 12pm - 8pm.
Responsibilities
- Serve as a resource to staff; provide guidance and coaching to team leads and mid-management in all HR systems, processes, applicable laws, and policies.
- Build strong relationships with staff and managers in order to help them with their human resource needs.
- Develop and oversee full cycle of recruitment efforts including creating and maintaining job descriptions and postings, identifying and attending industry specific job fairs and recruiting events, and establishing and maintaining relationships with colleges, universities, free and fee-based agencies.
- Process new hires and employee status changes, i.e., pay rate, separation, address, job title, etc.
- Develop and oversee new hire orientation, onboarding efforts and off-boarding process.
- Assist with payroll and benefits administration.
- Conduct human resources investigations; conduct interviews, gather relevant information, analyze data, report findings to Director of HR.
- Compile, prepare, and analyze special and recurring Human Resources reports and statistics i.e., turnover, headcount, separation, new hire, status change, etc.
- Ensure receipt of proper approvals on PAF, enter changes, and keep HRIS database current and up to date.
- Maintain the human resources filing system, create new employee folders and ensure all new hire paperwork is completed, follow-up with new hires regarding missing documentation.
- Facilitate bilingual training programs.
- Process and track E-Verify cases.
- Ensures compliance with company policies and procedures and legal responsibilities.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in Business, Human Resources, or related area
- 3+ years' of experience working in Human Resources
- 3+ years using HRIS systems and databases
- Solid understanding of HR practices, processes, and NYS and Federal employment laws
- Superior computer skills - strong working knowledge of MS Office; Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Fluent in English and Spanish required
- Payroll and benefits administration knowledge preferred
- Previous experience in a manufacturing or distribution center environment preferred
