Detailed functions include:
The Surgical Billing Analyst monitors all Perioperative and Procedural billing operations. The Billing Analyst works with the Supply Chain, Nursing, and Perioperative Leadership to verify the accuracy and reconcile supply and facility based charges. The Billing Analyst audits charts to verify charge documentation, identifies patterns, and makes recommendations for workflow changes to reduce charge capture issues.
Detailed functions include:
Surgical Charge capture – responsible for the daily auditing, reconciliation, and posting of supplies, implants, and related charges to ensure effective capture and monitor utilization within 24 hours of the date of service.- Reviews system generated charge reports to correct and/or complete inaccurate or missing data on a timely basis. Works with departmental staff to help meet target of 4 day billing window.
- Billable supplies – identifies new billable supplies/implants and then facilitates the activation of service code and works with CDM for item number and charge entry information
- Provides initial training and ongoing support to OR nursing staff regarding the appropriate documentation of case vents, supplies and implants
- Serves as a resource to Revenue Performance/Audit Management, Perioperative Leadership, Nursing, and Support Operations
- Facilitates in implementation of new designs/workflow for charge capture resolution.
- Initiates correspondence advising staff of new coding/billing policies and procedures, and interprets same as required by staff.
- Manages, monitors and reports daily the charge activities of the department and reports anomalies to perioperative administration
- Performs other duties related to revenue capture and reimbursement as assigned.
Required Experience and Skills
High School diploma required, Bachelor’s degree preferred- Minimum 5-7 years’ experience with hospital billing operations required, Operating room billing operations preferred
- Proven working knowledge of CPT and ICD-10 coding systems required - certification required within twelve months of job hire: CPC, RHIT, RHIA or any combination.
- Successful completion of medical terminology class.
- Familiarity with large healthcare information systems (past experience with IDX, OACIS, EPIC and/or Last Word preferred).
Preferred Experience and Skills
Extensive knowledge of Federal documentation and billing regulations governing Medicare and Medicaid programs, and working knowledge of other managed care and indemnity payor requirements for billing and registration, such as would be acquired by 3-5 years of experience working directly in a health care finance area.- Expertise in PC based spreadsheets and word processing.
- Must be highly analytical and have excellent written and verbal communications.
- Demonstrated experience in managing interpersonal relationships and in handling multiple priorities effectively.
