Functions

Area of Responsibilities

Prepare and present lectures, seminars, and one-on-one teaching sessions to clinical staff responsible for the provision of care to patients suffering from cardiovascular disease(s).

Research and evaluate emerging instructional technologies, or methods.

Participate in Continuing Health Education Programs.

Prepare presentations based on the most recent literature regarding surgical intervention and care of cardiovascular patients and provide these materials for use by all cardiovascular service line team members.

Adapt instructional content or delivery methods for different levels or types of learners.

Present lectures online that will be accessed in synchronous and asynchronous fashion by learners.

Provide teaching and supervision to nursing students in all clinical settings to include inpatient, outpatient, and clinical research subjects.

Serve on appropriate hospital committees.

Perform and instruct on performance of procedures such as bedside echocardiography, EKG's, insertion of intravenous and arterial lines, pulmonary catheter lines, central lines, and chest tubes.

Instruct advance practice providers (APP) on surgical skills such as vein harvest, first assist in the operating room, and the peri-operative care of patients.

Compliance Statement

Employee performs within the prescribed limits of Tanner Health System's Ethics and Compliance program. Is responsible to detect, observe, and report compliance variances to their immediate supervisor, the Compliance Officer, or the Hotline.

Education: Ph.D/M.D./D.D.S.

Qualifications

Must have an MD, or equivalent, as well as experience in managing cardiovascular disease.

Extensive skill, knowledge, and experience is needed for this position.

Must demonstrate commitment, internal motivation, problem solving skills, flexibility and creativity, time management skills, leadership and management capabilities, accessibility, a desire for lifelong learning, morality, and highly proficient in the skills and knowledge related to this specialty.

Definitions

The Instructional Coordinator manages patients with cardiovascular diseases, including heart failure cardiomyopathy, coronary artery disease, valvular heart disease, atrial fibrillation, and peripheral vascular diseases.

Position Responsibilities

Contact with Others: Frequent contacts of a significant nature involving difficult negotiations and technical matters requiring thorough knowledge of organization policies or treatment, plus an ability to understand, communicate with, and to lead, and influence others to obtain willing acceptance, consent, or action. Requires a high degree of diplomacy.

Effect of Error: Probable errors not easily detected and may adversely affect external as well as internal relationships and may result in major expenditures for equipment, materials, or procedures detrimental to the patient's welfare or the organization's interest. Work is subject to general review only and requires considerable accuracy and responsibility. Continually works with reports, records, plans, and programs of a major functional area of the organization where integrity is required to safeguard the organization's position. Duties may involve the preparation of data on which the administration bases important decisions and are highly confidential.

People Management Responsibilities

Supervisory Responsibility: Has limited supervision over a small section of employees (up to 15), i.e. assigns and directs their work; instructs new employees and corrects results, may discuss with supervisor, but has no authority over job content or personnel. Team governance where the Members evaluate, interview, and recommend personnel actions.

Mental Demands: A wide variety of complex, changing problems, most of which cannot be anticipated, and there is little existing precedent. Requires careful analysis for the effect of solution on other activities and overall coordination in the organization. Accuracy is essential and not subject to further check. Work involves high degree of resourcefulness, independent judgment, initiative, and long-range planning to achieve major functional objectives.
