Title: Housing Support Specialist - Part Time
Reports to: Outreach Manager

Date Available: 01-01-2023

Contract Range: $19,500 for one year contract

Position Summary

Join one of Central Florida’s oldest and most established social service agencies in our effort to combat homelessness by getting individuals into housing rapidly.

Our mission is to prevent homelessness, combat poverty, cultivate self-sufficiency, restore hope and glorify God through the faithful provision of services that directly address physical, emotional and spiritual needs for families and individuals who are struggling in Central Florida. With locations in Downtown Orlando, Winter Park and Ocoee the Christian Service Center has been serving Central Florida families with compassion and care for 49 years.

This is a Part time 12-month position.

Hours: 25 hours per week. Must be willing to work the occasional night or weekend.

Physical Demands: Ability to lift and move 20 lbs.

General Statement of Duties

The Outreach Assistant is responsible for completing assessments with participant(s) over the phone and in person, entering information and data, verifying eligibility, and confirming services provided and referrals into the Homeless Management Information System (HMIS). Calls will primarily be with people who are experiencing homelessness and\or a housing crisis. The Outreach Assistant will assist in outreach in areas populated by those experiencing homelessness. Essential duties for this position are communication skills, problem solving, and mediation. This position will create and implement a guide for community resources and be responsible for ensuring it is up to date and correct on a monthly basis.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Ability to have problem solving and creative conversation to assist with housing solutions.
  • Engage clients in a diversion conversation to find reasonable alternatives to entering the homeless system.
  • Complete assessments for client(s) over the phone and in person.
  • Prepare client files and input data entry in a complete, accurate, and timely manner into the Homeless Management Information System (HMIS).
  • Conduct outreach in the areas populated by those experiencing homelessness.
  • Have a working knowledge of community resources and services.
  • Provide community resources and referrals to meet the needs of those individuals that are ineligible for services.
  • Create, implement, and update a resource guide for community resources.
  • General office and administrative duties.
  • Attend events and complete intake assessments.
  • Work alongside Case Managers with clients to get documents ready for referrals into programs.
  • Reporting and data analysis.
  • Assist Outreach Manager with Diversion training for staff and volunteers to aid in housing conversations.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualities and Competencies

The ideal candidate will be a versatile Social Services professional with experience in Social Work, Program Management and Evaluation, Human Services and Community Relations. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are critical. This person should possess a sincere passion for nonprofit work and specifically impoverished and homeless families. Honesty, integrity, humility, and initiative are important to this position. In addition, the following qualities are preferred:

Education and Experience

Required experience:

  • Minimum of one-year of social work/ case management experience.
  • Knowledge in Mental Health related fields

Preferred experience:

  • Existing understanding of grant funded positions and reporting.
  • Experience working with homeless and impoverished clients.
  • Experience with crisis intervention and trauma informed care
  • Proficiency with the Homeless Management Information System (HMIS) & Microsoft Office Suite.
