Job Summary

Neighborhood House’s Youth and Family Services Prevention Programs develop alcohol, tobacco, marijuana, vape and opioid prevention programs as well as mental health promotion and suicide prevention programs focusing on youth and young adults in Seattle/King County.

The Prevention Educator-Social Media Specialist who will report to the Youth and Family Services Manager works closely with our team to organize health promotion social media campaigns including Most Steer Clear, events, workshops and other outreach strategies to engage and educate youth and young adults on and off of college campuses .

This position is mostly remote. In-person events and outdoor outreach events will be required about once a month during the school year and weekly during the summer.

Responsibilities

• Support in the development, dissemination and evaluation of prevention media campaigns targeting college age young adults including Most Steer Clear, 206 Rising, opiate overdose prevention campaigns, mental health promotion, and suicide prevention campaigns.
• Support the development of short video Public Service Announcements related to Most Steer Clear and/or interactive web based ads.
• Update and develop online and social media prevention materials including websites, Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok and other platforms. Develop ways to engage young adults in Prevention Campaigns through social media including, YouTube, Spotify and other platforms.
• Assist with community events and media campaigns, and help coordinate community mobilization relating to substance misuse and mental health related issues.
• Provide translation/interpretation as needed (if bilingual).

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Proficient ability to utilize social media apps commonly used by youth and young adults to promote prevention messages.
  • Understanding of basic graphic design principals and ability to create social media posts, flyers and other ads.
  • Ability to work remotely as well as in-person outreach events.

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience developing and promoting prevention campaigns knowledgeable about college age young adults in King County and familiar with at least one college/university campus.
  • A current or recent graduate of a university or Community College of King County, Pierce County, or Snohomish County.

  • Willingness to speak in public and present to youth and peers at workshops and outreach events. Bilingual in a major language spoken by youth in King County (Spanish, Somali, Vietnamese, Oromo, Amharic, Tigringa or other widely spoken language).

Required Credentials

  • COVID-19 Vaccination (must be obtained and documentation submitted prior to employment).
  • Must pass Neighborhood House background check.
  • Position requires Washington State bi-annual criminal background re-check.

Post-Hire on-the-job Training Requirements

  • Current First Aid Certification (within 30 days of hire, maintain current certificate during employment).
  • Current CPR Certification (within 30 days of hire, maintain current certificate during employment).
  • Sexual Harassment Training within 30 days of hire.
  • Child Abuse and Neglect training (within 2 weeks of hire).
