Position Overview

The Office of Inspector General is seeking to hire an Investigative Team Leader for the Bureau of Investigations located in Springfield, Illinois to perform highly responsible, sensitive, and confidential investigative work of the Central Region area state-operated facilities and community agencies. The incumbent will independently direct the gathering and analysis of relevant facts and data concerning abuse, neglect, financial exploitation, death, or serious injuries investigations. The Office of Inspector General assists individuals with physical, developmental and/or intellectual disabilities and assists agencies and facilities in prevention efforts by investigating all reports of abuse, neglect, and mistreatment in a timely manner, to foster humane, competent, respectful, and caring treatment of individuals with disabilities. The ideal candidate must have prior investigative experience and maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with professionalism. Travels in performance of job duties.

Job Responsibilities

  • Serves as Investigative Team Leader.
  • Serves as full-line supervisor.
  • Travels to conduct confidential, sensitive, and complex investigations.
  • Reviews, revises, and implements management procedures for the gathering and compiling of relevant data and facts concerning the full range of cases under investigation by subordinate staff.
  • Prepares administrative and criminal prosecution materials and reports.
  • Maintains confidential files pertaining to cases under investigation and responsible for ensuring the security of all pertinent information.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or required which are reasonably within the scope of duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of four (4) years college with course work in law enforcement.
  • Requires three (3) years of progressively responsible administrative experience in a law enforcement or investigative program.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Five (5) years of professional experience interviewing witnesses, collecting, and gathering data involving abuse/neglect and or malfeasance/misfeasance for a public or private organization.
  • Five (5) years of professional experience preparing investigative reports.
  • Five (5) years of professional experience in a public or private organization maintaining confidentiality and handling sensitive information with professionalism.
  • Two (2) years of professional supervisory experience assigning work, providing guidance to subordinates, recommending counseling and/or discipline following collective bargaining agreements, training staff, approving time off and preparing and signing performance evaluations.
  • Three (3) years of professional experience attending criminal, civil or administrative proceedings and providing expert witness testimony for investigative results and/or assessment.
  • Three (3) years of professional experience reviewing and recommending revisions to investigative policies and procedures.
  • Five (5) years of professional experience communicating in verbal or written form with both internal and external stakeholders on investigative matters.
  • Five (5) years of professional experience meeting deadlines with strong attention to detail and the ability to utilize critical thinking skills while multi-tasking multiple projects.
