Job description
Under the general direction of the Director, Office of Institutional Equity ("OIE"), this position's responsibilities include conducting investigations, handling informal and formal resolution of complaints of discrimination, harassment and sexual violence through both informal conflict resolution and formal investigation. This position is primarily located on the West Lafayette campus but could require limited travel to regional campuses.
Responsibilities:
- Assist in the resolution of complaints of discrimination and harassment with central offices, academic schools, residence halls, and other designated individuals. Conduct investigations and prepare reports in connection with complaints of harassment and discrimination involving faculty, staff and students, including, but not limited to, complaints of sexual misconduct and/or violations of Title IX. Assist in the intake and resolution of complaints of discrimination and harassment through informal and formal resolution processes and assist in facilitating outreach and supportive measures.
- Partner with key designees throughout the investigative process, meet established timelines, and treat all constituents engaged in the complaint process with sensitivity and neutrality. Assist with the development and maintenance of accurate and thorough records and notes of all complaints brought forward and investigations conducted.
- Conduct education programs on relevant policies and procedures on such topics as harassment, discrimination, and Title IX, formal and informal resolution processes, supportive measures and interim measures, and mandatory reporter requirements.
- Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein
What We're Looking For:
- BA/BA
- Two years of experience with sexual misconduct (including sexual assault or sexual harassment cases), employment law, conducting investigations, providing accommodations, human resources, and/or related experience
- Working knowledge of Federal and State equal opportunity and non-discrimination laws/regulations (including FERPA, Title IX, Title VII, Title VI, ADA, and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act and other applicable laws/regulations)
- Knowledge of complexities surrounding sexual misconduct, including sexual assault and sexual harassment cases in a university or college setting
- Excellent writing and proofreading skills
- Effective verbal communication skills, including the ability to quickly build rapport and ability to speak in front of groups and interact effectively in a University setting
- Excellent customer service skills and professionalism in dealing with external business partners, students, faculty, and staff
- Exceptional interpersonal relationship skills, including management of relationships with external business partners, students, faculty and staff
- Strong organizational and time management skills with emphasis on accuracy and attention to detail
- Ability to identify and discern problems, analyze information, and implement solutions
- Motivated individuals with ability to efficiently multitask, work under pressure, handle frequent interruptions and meet deadlines
- Capable of taking initiative, assuming responsibility, and handling confidential information with discretion
- Ability to work independently and contribute to a team environment
- Learning orientation to changing technology
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Outlook, and Word
- Valid US or Canadian driver's license
What Is Helpful:
- Advanced degree in Law, Higher Education, or a related field
- Experience working in higher education
