JOB DESCRIPTION / Master's Degree Required

POSITION TITLE: Clinician I - Juvenile Court Liaison

WAGE CLASSIFICATION: Exempt

SALARY GRADE: CLINICIAN I

DIVISION: ALCC- On site city/county schools and Limestone County Courthouse

HOURS: Full Time - 40 Hours Weekly - As Assigned

SUPERVISOR: Program Director, ALCC

POSITIONS SUPERVISED: None

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provides and coordinates program activities. (Examples of tasks: research/co-deliver lessons in areas such as cognitive development, social skills, emotional growth, help plan and co-direct recreational activities, help assemble materials, and co-instruct arts/crafts projects).
  • Treatment planning and implementation. (Examples of tasks: assist staff team in developing plan; observe clients and document progress; monitor behavioral checklists).
  • Assist in record keeping. (Examples of tasks: prepare daily attendance reports, complete clinical documentation (progress notes, treatment plans, administrative forms).
  • Incorporate parents in child’s treatment and planning. (Examples of tasks: make home visits as necessary; provide family therapy; provide family education and support).
  • Provides direct clinical services (Examples of tasks: schedules and delivers outpatient services which meet the expectations of the center; completes clinical documentation in a timely fashion; conducts group therapy.)
  • Represents community mental health to the assigned county of responsibility. (Examples of tasks: liaison activities with local mental health association and other appropriate community organizations. Development of school program in city/county schools. Represent Mental Health Center of North Central Alabama with both city and county school systems.)
  • Provides consultation and public education. (Examples of tasks: provides seminars to the general public; makes public education presentations; provides information and referral services.)
  • Participates in quality assurance activities. (Examples of tasks: completes own work in accordance with Quality Assurance Standards; participates in Peer Review; participates in record reviews; participates in program review.)
  • Juvenile Court Liaison services to Limestone County Juvenile Court. (Examples of tasks: provides assessments as appropriate with children/adolescents referred by Juvenile Court Judge. Make recommendations regarding treatment options to the client, Court and family. Provides clinical services and makes appropriate clinical referrals. Participates in consultation with Juvenile Court, Juvenile Probation and DHR as appropriate to assist in securing clinician resources for children and adolescents. Completes case management functions as indicated. Completes services per Center policies/procedures.)
  • Meet required productivity expectations.
  • Customarily and regularly exercise discretionary power. (Example: Comparison and evaluation of possible courses of conduct in acting and making a decision after various possibilities have been considered.)

EDUCATION AND CERTIFICATION:

  • Education: Master’s degree in a mental health field with a clinical practicum.
  • Experience: Two years of post-master’s direct mental illness experience or;
  • Supervision: Treatment staff who do not have 2 years post master's supervised clinical experience must receive supervision from a therapist who has a Master’s Degree in a mental health related field and at least 2 years post master's experience in a direct service functional area. The supervision must include 2 face-to-face supervisory sessions per month (minimum 1 hour per session) in addition to case staffing and other Performance Improvement functions for 2 years post master's supervision.
  • Staff who provide treatment and clinical services primarily to children and adolescents shall have 2 years supervised experience serving children/adolescents or shall receive supervision in this area 1 hour a week by a staff member with 2 years of experience working with children and adolescents and shall receive 20 hours of specialized training per year for 2 years from the date they begin providing such services.
  • Certificate: Child and Adolescent Needs and Strengths (CANS) and Early Childhood Child and Adolescent Needs and Strengths (ECCANS) Certificates. Certificates must be maintained by annual passing of related tests.

MINIMUM EXPECTATIONS:

  • Ability to relate well to clients, a multi-disciplinary staff, and the community, ability to work with a team. Must demonstrate and continue to show merit.
  • Employees will be screened for tuberculosis prior to initiation of duties. Annual screening thereafter will occur only if there has been known exposure or evidence of ongoing tuberculosis transmission.
  • Must be able to work in a cooperative manner with co-workers, supervisors, and other staff in the company.
  • Performs other related duties as required. (Related duties as required are duties which may not be specifically listed in the duties and responsibilities description, but are within the general occupational series and responsibility level typically associated with the employee’s class of work.)
  • Must be able to follow company policies and procedures.
  • Must work the days and hours necessary to perform all assigned responsibilities and tasks. Must be available (especially during regular business hours or shifts) to communicate with supervisors, clients, vendors and any other person or organization with whom interaction is required to accomplish work and project goals.
  • Must be punctual and timely in meeting all requirements of performance, including, but not limited to, attendance standards, work deadlines, and beginning and ending assignments on time.

TRAINING:

  • Professionally accepted management of aggressive/assaultive behavior and crisis intervention techniques: The training must have been within the past 2 years, and the training must have been conducted prior to working alone with consumers.
  • Infection control: Staff shall be trained prior to working with consumers and annually thereafter.
  • Initial training on the following topics:
  • Diagnostic categories.
  • Classes of psychotropic medications.
  • Recovery orientation.
  • Interaction with consumers and families.
  • Abuse and neglect and all state laws pertaining to abuse and neglect including reporting required by the Department of Human Resources. Training is required prior to working alone with consumers and on an annual basis.
  • Certificate: Child and Adolescent Needs and Strengths (CANS) and Early Childhood Child and Adolescent Needs and Strengths (ECCANS) Certificates. Certificates must be maintained by annual passage of related tests.

ADDITIONAL PREFERRED/DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Training and experience in group therapy.
  • Ability to provide public training to professionals.
