Job Summary:

KFSN TV, the ABC/Disney Owned station in Fresno CA. has an opportunity for an Assistant Director of Technology with significant management and leadership experience and a strong working knowledge of television broadcast and digital media.

This TV station and its technology team are part of the ABC Owned Television (ABC OTV) group which is in the Disney Entertainment division. The ideal candidate will become a key player in conceiving, designing, implementing and operating all technical aspects of this television station. They will have demonstrable ability to manage multiple and changing priorities. An in-depth knowledge of information technology, digital video and audio technologies, RF technologies and file- based production workflows will be necessary. Experience in TV broadcast engineering management including network, studio and transmitter facility maintenance, capital project planning and implementation, production and on-air operations preferred.

Ability to support scheduling technical personnel, preparation of operating budgets, as well as compliance with government and industry regulations and standards will be expected. Ideally, the candidate will be detail-oriented and demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills. They will report to the Director of Technology and will be expected to become a “go-to” technical contact at the station, with the attitude and ability to support and service other departments including News, Programming, Promotions, and Sales. Basic Qualifications – the ideal candidate must meet the following criteria:

  • Ability to work a schedule that may include weekdays, nights, weekends, and holidays
  • Must be willing to be on call and support the station as needed
  • Clear and professional communication skills required due to frequent interaction with end users, management, and other engineering SME’s across ABC OTV.
  • Experience in end-to-end integration and commissioning of broadcast and/or IT systems.
  • Excellent organizational, documentation, and writing skills required
  • Demonstrate a high standard for quality of work and ability to uphold these standards for the technology team.
  • Be able to perform and prioritize at a high level while working in an extremely fast-paced and often unpredictable production environment
  • A positive attitude and willingness to develop and train other team members.
  • Proven track record managing major and minor projects

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced knowledge of new and traditional television broadcast equipment and systems including but not limited to master control and newsroom automation, routers, asset management systems, non-linear editing systems, and networked storage systems
  • Knowledge of IT networks, enterprise software platforms, switches, cloud technologies, and virtual machines
  • Experience in installation and implementation of broadcast and IT systems
  • Experience using AutoCAD and Microsoft Visio preferred
  • Experience with the following platforms/technologies: Dalet, Overdrive, Cisco, Imagine
  • CCNA certification
  • Must be able to lift 50lbs

Required Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a Television, Film, Engineering, IT or Computer related field

7+ years’ experience in a primary role in technology related to operation and maintenance of modern broadcast, news, and media production facilities

The hiring range for this position in Fresno, CA $86,000 to $116,000 per year. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
