Company Summary:

Centennial Pathologists, PC provides laboratory services in a specialized laboratory setting, located in the Denver Tech Center, for Gastroenterology practices in Colorado. Due to the nature of the company, a person is able to attain a broad experience and exposure to a variety of responsibilities and is able to have close interaction with pathologists and histotechnologists. Wages are competitive and benefits, including medical, dental, vision, life Insurance, HSA, and a 401k (after 6 months) are currently offered for full-time employees.

This position is full-time with typical hours from 8:00am till 4:00pm Monday through Friday. There may be additional work hours may be needed depending on the workload.

Position Summary:

This position is responsible for performing multiple technical aspects of accessioning, grossing, and embedding tissue specimens. Additional responsibilities include: assisting pathologists and histotechnologists on various cases, minor troubleshooting, conferring with surgery centers in regard to problem specimens, assisting with inventory, storage of cassettes/slides, and processing of tissue cassettes.

Persons interested should be computer proficient, adept learners, have attention to detail, and desire to work with patient tissue.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Excellent typing proficiency needed to enter patient information into the Laboratory Information System.
• Gross tissue specimens as needed while adhering to strict quality standards.
• Embed patient biopsies as needed in paraffin molds.
• Screens for improperly submitted specimens and take appropriate action according to company policy.
• Ensures complete and accurate specimen log sheets.
• Places tissues in appropriate pre-processing solutions.
• Works with tissue processing equipment.
• Maintains a safe and clean work environment at all times.
• Answers phones i.e. questions from clients
• Other duties as assigned.
• No supervisory responsibilities.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

• Must meet the minimum educational/training requirements mandated by CLIA for high-complexity testing, Any one of the following three:
• Bachelors degree in a Life Science field of study such as chemistry, biology, or biomedical sciences
• OR Associates degree in laboratory science or medical technology from an accredited institution
• OR have equivalent education of at least 60 semester hours including some combination of:
• 24 semester hours of medical laboratory technology courses
• OR 24 semester hours of science courses including biology and chemistry.

DESIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & or ABILITIES:

• Experience in a laboratory of 2 years or more.
• Experience grossing tissue specimens of 1 year or more
• Experience handling chemicals and biohazardous materials of 1 year or more.
• Basic knowledge of biology, GI anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology.
• Skill in communicating and collaborating both orally and in writing.
• Ability to effectively problem solve issues.
• Ability to work independently and in small groups.
• Ability to maintain the necessary levels of patient confidentiality adhering to HIPAA
• Ability to discern color variations

WORK ENVIRONMENT

• Ability to tolerate sustained exposure to common laboratory environment (facemasks, goggles/eyewear, gloves, etc.).
• Common work environment chemicals Include but not limited to alcohol, xylene, formalin, etc.
• Pressure situations: Ability to meet deadlines impacting laboratory turnaround time and managing multiple complex issues.
• Will receive training as needed

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $18.00 - $20.00 per hour
