Position Summary:
Patrick & Henry Community College is seeking a Law Enforcement Officer. The successful candidate will provide law enforcement services by patrol of campus property daily on foot and in vehicle, enforce college policies and regulations and create an environment of safety and security for all persons and property. The officer will secure all buildings on campus as needed, perform building checks for problems and report discoveries to the appropriate on-call personnel. In addition, provide information, directions, and assistance to the campus and surrounding community while promoting compliance with college parking and traffic regulations. Direct and control traffic, conduct investigations of vehicular accidents, thefts, first aid events and other incidents as necessary, check and report campus conditions during times of inclement weather, and other duties as assigned.
KSA’s and or Competencies required to successfully perform the work
- Working knowledge of safety and security procedures and be familiar with state and local laws and ordinances.
- Ability to exercise discretion in the use of authority.
- Strong interpersonal skills. Communicates effectively orally and in writing; works with individuals of diverse backgrounds; and establishes positive working relationships with external and internal constituents.
- Physically fit and able to meet the requirements and training standards of the Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) as they pertain to law enforcement officers in the State of Virginia.
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions and procedures.
- Ability to use fair and reasonable judgment in decision making. Ability to act/react calmly and appropriately in emergency situations.
- Ability to work varied rotating shifts while carrying equipment and performing foot and vehicle patrols.
- Experience as a police officer
- Experience working in college, school, or institutional environment
