What you will do

The Lead EHS Specialist will assist with various assignments and projects in support of plant safety and environmental goals. Incumbent will work with various programs and policies, research a variety of EHS related components, participate in and lead various projects to assist in achieving corporate objectives.

How you will do it

  • Engaging the work force, both salary and hourly, to drive cultural change and accomplish safety performance objectives and targets.

  • Ensuring compliance with all federal, state and local regulatory requirements and JCI corporate safety systems.

  • Reviewing planned changes and new equipment installations. Approves or recommends changes in manufacturing and engineering matters of plant layout, location/relocation of machinery, equipment, facilities, safety designs, and processes.

  • Supporting property risk by partnering with Facilities in insuring compliance with FM Global assessments and routinely touring the property and conducting inspections to ensure compliance.

  • Maintaining and improving the corporate EMS. Collect environmental data for use in determining root-causes of compliance problems and pollution prevention opportunities. Implement proactive corrective steps.

  • Complete and submit applicable environmental reports in a timely fashion (such as Tier II, TRI Form R, Generator’s Residual Waste, Waste-Water Self-Monitoring, Air Emissions Inventory, etc.).

  • Instrumental in the administration, implementation and compliance with the ISO14001 Environmental Management System.

  • Leads all aspects of hazardous and non-hazardous waste program. This includes ensuring the correct handling, packaging, labeling, storage and transportation of waste to approved treatment and/or disposal facilities.

  • Coordinates air emission, wastewater, storm water, and waste auditing and testing.

  • Presents environmental and safety training programs to workers and supervisors. Some standardized are available, but development of site-specific training materials will be required.

  • Possesses background of OSHA standards and other applicable regulatory requirements.

  • Conducts research in order to apply the best industrial and working practices.

  • Identifies and evaluates unsafe practices to address root cause in the mitigation of hazard and risk.

  • Measures and audits the effectiveness of EHS hazard control programs.

What we look for

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Safety Management, Occupational Safety, Environmental Engineering or Environmental Science Minimum of six (6) years of Health, Safety and/or Environmental experience in an industrial/manufacturing environment.

  • Must be willing to work 1st shift (7:00AM-3:00PM).

  • Proficiency using Microsoft Office.

  • Effective and professional communication and organization skills.

  • Specialized safety training and certification from a recognized institute will have an added advantage.

Preferred:

  • Working knowledge of and experience with SafeStart, STOP or other behavior-based safety programs.

  • Bilingual in English and Spanish.

HIRING SALARY RANGE: $90,000 - $95,000 (Salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data.)
