Glendora Alliance Church, affiliated with the Christian And Missionary Alliance is seeking qualified candidates for the Lead Pastor's position. Glendora Alliance Church has been blessed with a senior pastor that is retiring after 42 years of faithful and effective ministry. We are seeking a candidate with a clear calling and a clear vision for the future. Glendora Alliance is a Spirit filled and Spirit led fellowship seeking to consistently accomplish our Mission Statement: Disciples Made. Glendora Alliance Church is firmly grounded on the Word of God and seeks to be obedient to all of God's Word. We are a multigenerational, diverse fellowship made up of White, Latino, Asian, Black and mixed ethnicities. We welcome one and all within our community as we seek to follow the Great Commission. The City of Glendora is nestled at the base of the San Gabriel mountains. Glendora is affectionately known as the "Pride of the Foothills" housing nearly 53,000 residents in approximately 20 square miles within Los Angeles County.
Objective
The lead pastor shall provide overall pastoral leadership in order to achieve the Vision and Mission of Glendora Alliance Church. The Lead pastor works collaboratively with the Governing Board, lay leaders and the pastoral church staff.
Primary Focus
The Lead Pastor, in dependence on the Holy Spirit, will lead with a focus to equip the staff, Governing Board and the congregation to do the work of the ministry. (Ephesians 4: 11-13).
Primary Responsibilities
- Preaching Of God's Word and overseeing Sunday Worship
- Provides the major preaching/ teaching voice for the church, giving the necessary time in prayer and preparation in order to be an effective instrument of God in the pulpit.
- May assign, as needed, preaching to other staff pastors, guest speakers and international workers.
- Provides overall leadership for special services of the church
- Pastoral Leadership with the church staff
- Leads the church staff (pastoral and administrative) in planning, administering, and evaluating their ministry leadership and activities in order to fulfill the specific purposes of their ministries in alignment with the overall Vision and Mission of Glendora Alliance Church.
- Leads a weekly staff meeting for prayer, planning, equipping and progress reports.
- Ensures that the ministry focus, job description and performance of the church staff is supported with healthy supervision and review, including an annual performance review for each staff member,
- Serves as the key representative of the church staff to the Governing Board and vice-versa.
- Pastoral Leadership with the Governing Board and other Boards
- Serves as chairman and a voting member of the Governing Board, working with the Governing Board to prayerfully develop, review and refine the Vision and Mission of Glendora Alliance Church.
- Provides spiritual leadership to the Board to equip them as shepherds of the flock (I Peter 5: 1 and to govern with diligence. (Romans 12:8)
- The Lead pastor is responsible to provide sound Biblical advice and training to the Governing Board pertaining to issues on spirituality, congregational care, discipleship, doctrine, constitution, church discipline, governance, etc.
- Serves on Boards and Committees- Trustee, Missions, Nominating Committee as an ex officio member
- Represents Glendora Alliance Church at District/ National CMA functions, Retreats, Conferences, General Assembly.
- Participates on District and Ministerial committees as requested and time permits.
- Leadership and Supervision of Ministry programs
- The Lead pastor is responsible for the efficient and harmonious operation of all church ministry programs ensuring that both pastoral and lay leaders are effectively equipped for the work of the ministry,
- The Lead pastor shall ensure a ministry focus on the Missions program of the Christian and Missionary Alliance and other missions as approved by the Governing Board.
- The Lead Pastor manages administrative and organizational functions ensuring that ministry programs are effective in achieving GAC's Vision and Mission.
- The Lead Pastor oversees and equips small group leaders for pastoral ministry.
Pastoral and Congregational Care
- The Lead Pastor shall, in partnership with small group leaders and pastoral team, ensure that the congregation is shepherded and cared for including visitation, counseling, hospitality, discipleship, weddings, funerals, church membership, baptism and crisis care.
- The Lead pastor shall ensure that the staff, and gifted lay leaders are equipped to provide effective congregational care.
Administration
- The Lead Pastor manages church administrative and organizational functions in a coordinated and orderly manner, adjusting as required and advising the Governing Board accordingly.
- The Lead Pastor oversees the publicizing and promotion of church activities and promotion of church activities on a regular basis.
Example to the Flock
- The Lead Pastor models the Christian life and commitment to Jesus Christ, a Christian marriage and family life if married.
- The Lead pastor gives strong emphasis to personal discipleship, spiritual formation, and spiritual disciplines.
Accountability
- The Lead Pastor is accountable to the Board of Elders to fulfill the requirements of Lead Pastoral leadership through the requirements of this job description. The Lead Pastor will participate with the Board in a mutually agreed upon pastoral review process annually.
- The Lead Pastor is accountable to the District Superintendent of the South Pacific Alliance of the Christian and Missionary Alliance in accordance with the Policies of the Christian and Missionary Alliance. The Lead pastor shall ensure adherence to both local and denominational policies.

Essential Qualifications and Characteristics
- Elder Quality as shown in ''How Are You Doing" questionnaire for self/wife
- Agreement with The GAC Vision And Mission Statement
- A heart for reaching the lost and making disciples locally/ internationally
- Licensed By the Christian and Missionary Alliance or willing to do so
- Approved by the District Superintendent
- Capable preacher/ teacher of God's Word
- At least 5 years’ experience in pastoral ministry
- If married, a healthy marital relationship
- If married, a wife who wants to have GAC as her home church
- A sense that this is more than a job but a calling
- A capable supervisor of pastoral staff
- A capable spiritual mentor and willing to grow in conflict management
- A capable crisis counselor
- Experience in supervising and managing others
- A track record of practicing good financial management
- A track record of practicing good time and resource management
- A supporter of small group ministry
- Teachable and open to correction
Preferable Qualifications and Characteristics
- Excellence in preaching and teaching
- Proficiency with presentation software
- Interest in civic affairs
