Lead Scheduler

The Position
The Lead Scheduler develops and coordinates production schedules on a daily and weekly basis to secure the full range of operational expectations in the 48-hour frozen schedule are attained. Specifically, the Lead Scheduler is the direct recipient of the Master Schedule and is expected to understand and respond regarding operational status state of readiness on a weekly basis to achieve 100% of the 48-hour frozen schedule. The Lead Scheduler creates and maintains operations, work, and shipment schedules and prioritizes job orders to pre-emptively secure production optimization from the 4-week rolling Master Schedule. The Lead Scheduler interacts with the production, maintenance, quality, human resources, and shipping department on a daily basis to pre-emptively resolve issues regarding operational/manufacturing efficiencies. The Lead Scheduler must have a strong understanding of the production process and be able to generate and maintain effective daily and weekly schedules. The Lead Scheduler posts and secures the frozen schedule and prepositions all production considerations (supplies / raw materials / human resources / equipment / logistical support / etc.) in advance essentially guaranteeing the locked schedule expectations can and will be achieved.
Job Description
Primary Responsibilities
- The Lead Scheduler must exhibit strong leadership characteristics, take ownership and accountability for understanding operational processes, standards of output, optimal sequencing of production, standard costs and asset utilization to assist the Master Scheduler in delivering an optimal Master Schedule and 24-48 Hour Frozen Schedule that achieves all required business performance expectations.
- The Lead Scheduler is required to plan and schedule workflow for each department and operation according to previously established manufacturing sequences and lead times.
- The Lead Scheduler must anticipate and recognize changes in season sales and manufacturing efforts to meet customer demand.
- The Lead Scheduler must inform the master schedule to establish sequence and lead time of each operation to meet shipping dates according to sales forecasts or customer orders.
- The Lead Scheduler is required to analyze production specifications and plant capacity data and perform mathematical calculations to determine manufacturing processes, tools, and human resource requirements.
- The Lead Scheduler must conduct both short- and long-term planning to optimize sales and manufacturing plans.
- The Lead Scheduler must confer with department supervisors to determine status of assigned projects.
- The Lead Scheduler must maintain scheduled vs actuals, inventory management processes to avoid shortage and excess, otherwise securing maximum schedule attainment. The position will maintain reports for production scheduling and actual outcomes.
- The Lead Scheduler must stay attuned to daily live operational performance outcomes seeking and triaging any and all variances to plan.
Job Requirements
- 4+ years of scheduling experience, preferably in a manufacturing, steel/wire production or related industry; 1+ years in supervisory role.
- Bachelor’s degree in supply chain management or a related field is preferred.
- Certifications: Certified in Planning and Inventory Management (CPIM) or Certified Supply Chain Professional (CSCP) are preferred.
- Demonstrates exceptional action orientation toward customer-service with the ability to effectively prioritize and manage multiple responsibilities in a fast paced, dynamic business environment.
- Demonstrates strong analytical problem-solving skills and the ability to consolidate data into concise and logically organized executive-ready presentations and reports.
- Demonstrates familiarity with the development and delivery of a master schedule that establishes sequence and lead times of multiple operations in a manufacturing environment that meet shipping dates according to sales forecasts or customer orders.
- Analyzes production specifications and plant capacity data and performs mathematical calculations to determine manufacturing processes, tools, and human resource requirements.
- Understands how to effectively expedite operations that would otherwise delay schedules and how to alter schedules in response to unplanned conditions.
- Demonstrates experience with delivering accurate physical inventories.
- Demonstrates experience managing consigned inventory.
- Demonstrates excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrates advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability and willingness to travel an estimated up to 10%.
