Enjoy working with Tinker in our sunny inspiring Studio this summer! We’re hiring an energetic, positive and highly qualified Lead Art Teacher to join our amazing team for select weeks this summer!

Position Overview

This position will teach 4 weeks of summer camp over the course of the summer -- teaching 2 camps each week (9am - 12pm and 1pm - 4pm). The work hours are generally 8:30am - 4:30pm. The Lead Teacher is compensated per camp week taught, rather than by clocked in hours. The (super fun!) camp topics include: Castle Camp, Nature Art Camp, Treasure Island Camp, and Unicorn-ify Art Camp. All camps are for ages 5 - 10.

This is a seasonal Summer Camp position, for four weeks over the course of the summer + additional onboarding and training days in May.

Summer Camp Dates:

  • June 5 - 9
  • June 26 - 30
  • July 10 - 14
  • July 31 - Aug 4

Additional training days, and one week off closure are detailed below:

Virtual Onboarding Between May 1st - May 15th:

  • 10 compensated hours for completing a Virtual Tinker Summer Camp (asynchronous)
  • 2 hours of virtual onboarding (asynchronous, apart from a 20 minute synchronous virtual meeting the week of May 8th)

In Person Onboarding & CPR Certification:

  • Monday, May 15th // 9am - 4:30pm
  • Thursday, May 18th // 11:45am - 2pm

Curriculum Training:

  • Monday, May 22nd 9am - 4:30pm
  • Tuesday, May 23rd 9am - 4:30pm

One week off (Tinker closed):

  • Monday, July 3rd - Friday, July 7th

This role includes but is not limited to:

Greeting students, facilitating pick up, and parent communication: Greeting students as they arrive to camp and helping them get settled in the camp environment; learning students’ names; facilitating pick up at the end of camp; communicating relevant information to parents

Running whole camp meetings: Running beginning of camp meetings with campers; facilitating community art projects; running outdoor snack break and games

Introducing & teaching art projects: implementing effective teaching strategies; working with artists who are feeling frustrated or need extra support with empathy and kindness; managing set up and clean up of art projects and supplies

Oversight of Assistant Teacher: Holding debrief meetings with the Assistant Teacher (in camps with an Assistant Teacher) at the end of each camp day; providing direct instruction to Assistant Teacher as needed; delegating tasks

Creating a safe, supportive, and fun Summer Camp environment: Showing up each day with warmth, enthusiasm, and excitement for your campers and team; maintaining an aesthetically pleasing and inviting environment; maintaining camper safety; playing games with campers; building connections and supporting peer-to-peer friendships

Setting up, breaking down, and prepping art materials and supplies: Prepping and resetting materials for upcoming projects; breaking down and putting away materials and supplies; delegating similar tasks to Studio Assistants

The Tinker Way: Implementing Tinker’s values, and adhering to Tinker’s curriculum, structure, and style

Skills, Abilities, and Experience

  • Background and experience in education/teaching elementary aged children required
  • Experience teaching art to elementary aged children required
  • Teaching license preferred
  • Teaching experience in a school setting preferred
  • Ability to communicate effectively with supervisors and team mates
  • Experience with painting, drawing, clay, mixed media, and a variety of other art mediums
  • Genuine enjoyment for working with children
  • Ability to successfully implement Tinker’s curriculum and structure focused on community building and relationship building
  • Enjoyment for being a part of a team in a lively and busy studio setting
  • Excellent people skills and enjoyment for being around people
  • Ability to efficiently prioritize and with a positive work ethic
  • Excellent organization skills
  • Ability to lift and move up to 50 lbs

Compensation

  • $405 per half day camp week taught ($810 total per week), with different rates during the Onboarding and Training Days outlined above:Onboarding & CPR Certification Pay Rate: $14/hr

Curriculum Training Pay Rate: $14/hr during training days PLUS a bonus of $110 to be paid out at the conclusion of the Summer Camp season, on the last paycheck of the season. This bonus is paid out only if the team member has completed all 4 weeks of Summer Camp at Tinker, and all commitments are fulfilled and duties are performed.
