Library Assistant I - Indian River Library-Public Service-Circulation-
Job description
Including: day, evening, weekend hours, and occasional after-hours programming

Responsibilities Include:
- Ability to use library and computer software to perform account maintenance; register new users; check in/out library material and rooms; assist with maintaining various reports and/or records; troubleshoot computers; and copy, transcribe, enter and post data or information.
- Ability to handle various forms of tender and cash registers; point of sale machines; some knowledge of reconciling money; and process fees, fines, sales, and donations.
- Ability to renew, request, receive, inspect, sort and shelve library materials.
- Ability to assist with online resources; tablets and mobile devices; reader’s advisory; and use of other library materials and equipment.
The weekly schedule is varied and includes day, evening and weekend hours. May also include after-hours programming.
Requires instruction that is sufficient for satisfactory job performance.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT :
In addition to satisfying the vocational/education standards, this position requires a minimum of three months of related, full-time equivalent experience in public libraries or customer service-related industry or volunteerism equivalent to 6 months’ part-time work experience.
SPECIAL CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES :
Depending on departmental operational requirements, may require valid driver’s license and driving record in compliance with the City Driving Standards .
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS :
Employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or city-wide emergencies. Emergency operations support work and work locations may be outside of normal job duties.
The selected candidate may be transferred to another area library location if and when a need arises.
An acceptable criminal history and Child Protective Services (CPS) reports are required.
An in-basket exercise will be administered to candidates that are selected for an interview.
