Job description
EarlyBird, developed by Dr. Nadine Gaab, provides the long-awaited tools to easily and accurately identify students at risk of dyslexia and learning challenges earlier, when the window for intervention is most effective. EarlyBird is an app-based screener that is fun for children and designed for teachers, paired with a teacher-friendly comprehensive data dashboard.EarlyBird seeks professionals steeped in the Science of Reading who have experience delivering professional development to teachers in the early grades. These positions are part-time, remote, and with flexible hours during times when schools schedule professional development. You will be matched with schools/districts according to your availability and be their data workshop leader using your expertise in dyslexia/early literacy to guide groups of teachers in interpreting their data, using data to inform instructional groupings, and utilizing EarlyBird’s Next Steps platform resources to plan and deliver Tier 1, 2 instruction. In an average week you might deliver 5 or more one-hour professional development workshops via zoom. As needed, you may also work on product development efforts, or testing in schools.
Orton-Gillingham certification (full training with a credentialed practicum) or equivalent, knowledge of dyslexia, and understanding of the relationship between dyslexia and other areas such as naming speed, oral language, and phonemic/phonological skills are required.
If you love to learn, have kept up on the latest science in how children learn to read, and love data and what it can do to drive instruction, consider joining our team. As a critical employee of this startup company, you will find an environment that is exciting, moves quickly, and requires flexibility. The reward is enormous – in some cases introducing teachers to a whole new world of the Science of Reading, and in others answering the tough questions about dyslexia, about student profiles, and about how to create the best instructional path to prevent students from developing dyslexia.
Technology equipment and reliable internet suitable for delivering webinars to large groups through Zoom, including slide presentation, polls, breakout rooms, etc is required. Literacy specialists are compensated at an hourly rate of $50/hour for time preparing workshops, delivering professional development, follow-up, or assisting with other literacy related projects for EarlyBird.
