Job description
Provides customer service to WIC program participants and applicants; screens and determines participant eligibility; issues benefits to participants; processes and maintains program records and documentation; conducts a variety of routine clerical duties; provides nutrition education; and performs other related duties as required.
Essential Functions
Provides customer service and assesses applicant eligibility for program services:- Screens and interviews applicants.
- Verifies and calculates income.
- Issues and explains benefits to participants.
- Refers participants to health and/or nutrition professionals.
- Conducts a variety of clerical duties in support of program operations:
- Schedules and coordinates WIC appointments.
- Prepares and processes program documentation.
- Performs data entry; updates/maintains client records.
- Copies, faxes, and files documents.
- Organizes and maintains departmental filing system.
- Generates daily and monthly reports.
- Orders supplies; monitors and tracks supply inventory.
- Answers multi-line phones to assist callers and provide information.
- Teaches nutrition education classes; issues breast pumps and provides related counseling to participants.
- Miscellaneous:
- Participates in community outreach activities as required.
- Obtains participant measurements and/or blood samples as assigned.
- Provides assistance with other WIC program functions as required.
- Performs other related duties as assigned or required.
- Maintains WIC facility to ensure a clean, safe, and sanitary environment.
- Participates in cleaning restrooms, kitchen/break area, furniture, doors, windows, floors and equipment.
- Removes trash to the proper disposal receptacle.
- Re-stocks supplies such as tissue, towels, soap and hand sanitizer.
- Reports facility issues to supervisor.
Decision Making
- This position works under general supervision.
Minimum Requirements
High School Diploma or equivalent is required.- Six (6) months clerical experience is required.
- Must possess a valid Texas Driver's License with an acceptable driving record.
- Proof of required immunizations or obtain upon employment.
Core Competencies
Must be able to read, process, and prepare program records and documentation.- Effective verbal and written communication skills are required; must be able to maintain positive working relationships with program personnel, outside agencies, program participants, and the general public.
Physical Demands and Working Conditions
Physical requirements include lifting up to 45 pounds rarely. Subject to vision, hearing and talking constantly; sitting, walking, pushing/pulling, reaching, handling and fine dexterity frequently; standing, lifting, carrying and foot controls occasionally; kneeling, crouching, bending, twisting, climbing and balancing rarely. Working conditions involve exposure to infectious diseases and blood borne pathogens.

2 days 8 am–4:30 pm, 2 days 8 am–7 pm, 8 am-12 pm F
