LPN/RN Preceptor | Qualifications:
- Minimum two (2) years’ experience in a long-term or rehab setting
- Teaching/mentoring experience, preferred
- Current NYS License
- Must provide proof of COVID vaccination
SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS:
- Demonstrate ability to plan, organize, prepare and evaluate instructional materials and present the material effectively.
PHYSICAL AND SENSORY REQUIREMENTS:
- Must have the physical ability to lift a minimum of 50 lbs.
- Must submit to and pass a yearly examination, PPD skin test and attend all mandatory inservices.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Works in a well-lit, ventilated area.
- May be on feet for long periods of time.
- Works thirty-seven- and one-half hours per week; days and times must be flexible to meet needs of the facility.
- Subject to many interruptions and changes of priorities.
LPN/RN Preceptor | Responsibilities:
- Preceptor will work directly with Orientee for the duration of their training and provide continuous mentorship as warranted.
- Preceptor will utilize appropriate teaching methods to help the Orientee meet their learning objectives.
- Preceptor will review the objectives of the training and discuss with Orientee what modes of teaching will enhance the Orientee’s learning.
- Preceptor will assist the Orientee to develop and improve their performance.
- Preceptor will communicate to the DON, ADON and/or Director of Inservice regarding the Orientee’s performance throughout training. Completion of evaluations will be necessary as directed.
- Preceptor will be charged with completing a competency evaluation of each Orientee. Passing of the competency evaluation asserts that the Orientee has concluded the formal training.
- Preceptor will educate Orientee to Facility expectations for appropriate documentation and patient encounters.
- Preceptor will monitor for completion of Point of Care (POC) and other patient documentation by Orientees and other unit staff.
- Preceptor will provide assistance to unit staff as warranted.
- Preceptor will work as floor position when warranted and as directed by DON, ADON, and/or other Nursing Management.
- Preceptor must collaborate with the Inservice Department and remain knowledgeable in all processes and procedures in order to effectively train the Orientee.
- Preceptor must maintain continuous communication and provide constructive feedback in an appropriate setting with Orientee.
- Preceptor must maintain a mature and effective working relationship with members of the healthcare team.
- Facilitate the Orientee’s progressive independence in knowledge and skills.
- Promptly communicate issues of concern (i.e. Orientee behavior, clinical skills, Orientee progression, etc.) regarding the Orientee to DON, ADON, and/or Director of Inservice.
