BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION/TRAINING:
  • Licensed Practical Nurse currently licensed by the State of New Jersey
  • CPR Certification
SKILLS:
  • Sincere desire to work with the geriatric population
  • High level of patience, empathy and compassion
  • Excellent knowledge in their field
  • Excellent observation skills with attention to detail
  • Ability to anticipate the needs and moods of residents and interact with residents under all conditions
  • Self-motivated with good organizational skills and an acute sense of responsibility
  • Adept at data entry and strong knowledge of Microsoft
  • Knowledge of computer functions, including designated organization-approved electronic software
  • Excellent oral and written communications with residents, staff, families and the public
  • Ability to read, write, speak, understand and communicate in English sufficiently to perform the duties of this position
EXPERIENCE:
  • Previous clinical and/or healthcare experience
  • Experience in Long Term Care nursing preferred
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Understanding of state and federal healthcare laws and regulations
  • Provide professional care to residents
  • Perform professional duties as determined by qualifications and training
  • Assume charge of unit in absence of supervisor, if necessary

STANDARD REQUIREMENTS:

  • Demonstrate an understanding of the Residential Living principles, including resident choice, privacy, independence, and dignity in all interactions with residents
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the aging process, cognitive impairments, Alzheimer’s and other dementias
  • Ensure all assigned user ID codes and passwords for accessing resident / facility information are kept confidential; ensure the departmental computer workstations left unattended are properly logged off or the password protected automatic screen-saver activates within established facility policy guidelines
  • Report known or suspected incidents of fraud to the Administrator
  • Report any known or suspected unauthorized attempt to access facility’s information system
  • Maintain HIPAA compliance as well as confidentiality of all data, including resident, employee and operations data
  • Exhibit concern for safety and well-being of staff, residents, families, and visitors
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
  • Administer meds, including some injections, monitoring resident response
  • Change bandages and dressings
  • Assist residents who need assistance with eating and drinking
  • May make rounds with physicians and assist them in examining and treating residents
  • Follow established policies and procedures and accepted standards
  • Maintain adequate, accurate records
  • Oversee CNAs and provide them with appropriate tasks
  • Take instructions from report and give updates to RN and overseeing MD
  • Report any unusual or drastic changes in resident behavior/symptoms; seek help from superiors when needed
  • Use appropriate and safe body technique when lifting and/or transferring residents or supplies
  • Operate equipment required for resident care
  • Use mechanical equipment and assistive devices for patient handling tasks as identified, according to the individual resident Care Plan and the Safe Patient Handling Act.
  • Attend scheduled meetings and continuing education programs to keep abreast of current trends in medical science
  • Understand and apply basic principles of safety
OTHER DUTIES:
  • Timely completion of all required in-services
  • Must be present for at least one mandatory annual fire drill
  • Must participate in annual N95 Fit Testing
  • All other responsibilities that may be necessary to fulfill the duties associated with the position or as may be assigned
HOURS OF WORK:
  • As per department schedule
  • Weekends, if required

Currently licensed as an LPN by the State of New Jersey
CPR certification
Must work every other weekend

Our LPNs care for our residents, passing out medications and carrying out treatment orders as appropriate. You will take responsibility for duties of care such as giving injections, operating mechanical equipment and assistive devices, as required by resident care plans.
