Due to Michigan public schools requirements, individuals with theft, violence or drug related backgrounds will not qualify for employment.
What does this job look like:
We serve our public school customers by completing the following Maintenance and Grounds tasks:
- Plunge and snake backed up toilets
- Mowing lawns (lawns are to be presentable at all times)
- Edging walkways etc. as needed
- Athletic fields are to be maintained at a playable height at all times (generally no more than 4 inches)
- Remove grass clippings as needed
- Trim grass and weds
- Trim trees and shrubs
- Panting flowers and maintaining flower beds
- General maintenance of all lawn equipment
- Aerating athletic fields once per month minimum
- Application of fertilizers and weed control and pesticides (must be certified) and must be within the guidelines of the aw and pre approved by the school administration
- Maintain fences and gates
- Maintain and repair concrete and asphalt areas
- Maintain exterior building and lot lights
- Maintain athletic fields, dugouts, benches, bleachers, etc.
- Set up for athletic events (including marking fields)
- Clean and maintain all buildings related to grounds and athletics (including storage buildings)
- Repair restroom stalls, locks, hinges, etc..
- Install soap and paper supply dispensers
- Change out or clean flush valves
- Maintain and checks P/A system
- Small painting projects
- Building security
- Playground inspections
- Bleacher inspections
- Ventilation system checks and maintenance in out buildings
- Minor plumbing repairs
- English speaking and writing
- Sewer and drainage blockages
- Exhaust fan checks and repairs
- Hot water heater inspection and repairs in out building
- Vandalism reports and remove
- minor electrical repairs, sockets, switches, receptacles, ballast replacement etx.
- Flag adjustments
- Debris pick-up throughout the day
- Event set up
- Weekend shift hours as requested
- Other related as assigned
Snow Removal
- Contractor shall provide a snow and ice free driving surface on all drives and parking areas unless otherwise noted (Ex. softball and tennis court parking lots)
- Snow removal must be completed before 5:30 am at the Bus Garage on school days
- Snow removal shall be completed before 6:15 am at the High School, Middle School and Adult Ed. Bldg. on school days
- Snow removal shall be completed before 7:15 am at Oakwood and Westwood on school days
- Snow removal shall be competed minimum of one hour before buildings are used on any day school is not in session but the building are used for activities (ex. Saturday and Sunday City Rec. basketball or Junior Pro)
- Snow is not to Pile to cause obstruction or hazard to the public nor shall it be piled on sidewalks
- Snow shall be removed from sidewalks and play area's (basketball courts) ad those area's salted as needed to provide a safe walk area
- Additional snow removal and deicing of drives, lot's and sidewalks may be necessary for evening activities
- The contractor shall comply with all federal, state and local laws and regulations, including these governing environmental protection and the furnishing and use of all safeguards, safety devices ad protective equipment
- All other duties as assigned by Facilities Director and/or the Superintendent
When and Where is the job located:
We have the following school Maintenance and Grounds position available in Portland School District
- 6:00am-2:30pm - Full time
- 8:00 am- 12:00 pm - Part time
Pay Rate: $17.00 per hour
