Position: Maintenance Specialist

Reports to: Operations Specialist II

Department: Administration

Rincon Family Services (RFS) is a not-for-profit community organization, established in 1972 to combat the epidemic use of heroin and violence that were dismantling communities throughout Chicago. RFS is dedicated to rendering compassionate and effective programs that promote the quality of life by serving as a catalyst to advocate, educate, and empower individuals and their families.

POSITION SUMMARY: The Maintenance Specialist is responsible for cleanliness of facility and surrounding walkways and inspecting facility on a regular basis for safety and functionality. Maintenance staff is required to wear organizational uniform while working.

RESPONSIBILITY: Under the direct supervision of Operations Manager, the Maintenance Specialist carries responsibility for facility cleanliness, repairs and/or replaces non-functioning items as needed or requested by staff. Reorganizes space and furnishings as required. Participates in CQI and Safety planning for the facility. On call availability and other duties as needed.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES: The Maintenance Specialist must demonstrate the ability to perform the following:

  • Sweeping and mopping of floors twice daily and as needed.
  • Clean Reception area and Windows.
  • Vacuum all carpets.
  • Inspect, clean and supply restrooms.
  • Clean kitchen, and ensure supplies are stocked.
  • Ensure garbage is disposed from offices.
  • Ensure offices are cleaned.
  • Continuous inspection for lights, safety problems, items needing fixing or replacing.
  • (Quarterly) Shampoo carpets and wax & buff Floors.
  • Moving furnisher and reorganizing as needed.
  • Interior construction as needed.
  • Snow removal and salting in the winter months as needed.
  • In the summer, cut grass at different sites
  • Conducting orientation for new maintenance employees and provides ongoing training.
  • Participates on Safety committee and CQI as needed
  • Participates in regular supervision from the Supervisor, seeking additional supervision as needed. Minimum requirement one hour of documented supervision per month.
  • Other duties, as needed

CORE COMPETENCIES:

Good communication skills (verbal and written.

Participate in trainings or co-facilitate to train in Emergency Preparedness techniques (violence, fire, tornado, etc.)

OTHER REQUIRED ABILITIES:

Fluent in Spanish, bicultural applicants strongly preferred.

Ability to work effectively with peers, individual clients, and groups.

Desire to learn new skills.

Knowledge of surrounding community.

Ability to follow instructions and seek supervision as necessary.

Ability to write detail reports and gather relevant information to support reports.

Attention to detail.

Physical strength.

Knowledge of cleaning machines and supplies.

“Handyman” capabilities.

Must know how to use a laptop and phone applications used by the organization (Paycom, virtual on-boarding, and trainings)

Knowledge of Universal Precautions and Infection Control

Desire to learn new skills.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The Maintenance Specialist must be able to successfully perform essential functions of this job including frequent sitting, standing, and walking, which may be required for long periods of time, and may involve climbing stairs, occasional reaching with hands and arms, stooping, kneeling, crouching and crawling.Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Employees are responsible for informing supervisor of any invisible disability or medical restriction that limit physical capability.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: The Maintenance Specialist work environment characteristics are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Requires working under stressful conditions or working under irregular hours. Exposure to communicable diseases, body fluids, toxic substances, and other conditions common to a clinical environment. There may be occasions that call for an employee to carry out duties at other agency offices.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $18.00 - $22.00 per hour
