Position Overview:
This position leads a team of tax and accounting team members to achieve client financial goals and Compeer annual revenue goals. Works with internal and external influencers to market and grow client base and build relationships for the Tax and Accounting department. Effectively manages tax risk and liabilities associated with business operations and transactions. Serves as a technical resource to other team members with regard to tax and accounting processes. Participates in the ongoing design of processes to provide exceptional service, accurate and timely financial information.
Essential Functions:
Manages portfolio including preparation and review of federal and state income taxes for individual, partnership, and corporations.
Manage a reduced accounting portfolio.
Prepares written correspondence, private letter rulings and other documents for submission to or in response to IRS or Treasury Department matters.
Promotes a positive work environment that leverages the talents and abilities of team members in achieving organizational and team goals.
Determines performance standards and development plans and effectively communicates them to team members.
Supports process improvement within the team, developing best practices.
Builds new and existing client relationships to yield growth, improve market share, and member satisfaction.
Refers/cross sells other organization products and services.
Interprets and communicates financial data for complex questions, provides guidance and effectively translates highly technical finance, regulations and/or accounting information into non-technical terms.
Serves as a resource for proactively identifying, analyzing and interpr eting new regulations, various financial data and new product development.
Assists leadership in defining the Tax and Accounting team’s strategic direction and goals.
Keeps updated on industry best practices. Identifies and executes efficient and effective practices that enhance the team’s value.
Minimum Qualifications & Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to perform the essential functions of the job.
6+ years of experience in public accounting and/or tax planning and preparation.
Three to five years of leadership and management experience preferred.
CPA or Enrolled Agent Certification preferred.
Ability to receive certification by successfully completing the Farm Credit Services Tax Exam within two years of employment.
Knowledge of federal and state (I llinois, Minnesota, and Wisconsin) laws, regulations and compliance requirements specific to the financial industry and Farm Credit.
Experience preparing individual, partnership and corporate tax returns.
Agricultural industry experience preferred.
Strategic and innovative.
Leadership skills to select, evaluate, engage, motivate, mentor, train, delegate, reward and lead remote team members.
Strong listening, written and verbal communication skills, with ability to communicate at all levels of the organization.
Skill in developing and maintaining interpersonal relationships.
High level of integrity.
Strong problem solving, decision making and organizational skills.
Strong computer skills, including MS Office applications, QuickBooks and Thomson Reuters suite of products preferred.
Strong analytical skills with attention to detail.
Flexible and adaptable to changing situations.
Ability to r emain objective in balancing business needs and risk.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively with other teams to achieve goals and represent the business.
Valid driver’s license.
