JOB SUMMARY

The Mgr–Workers Compensation RTW Programs is responsible for the Workers’ Compensation, improvements and ongoing assessment of the claims and the claim processes related to the Company’s Return to Work programs. This position will manage the activities of Workers’ Compensation department personnel and be a key partner to the management of the Company’s third party claims administrator (TPA).

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist in identifying areas of opportunity and coordinating efforts with internal partners and the TPA for improving claim processes, increasing customer satisfaction, and reducing workers’ compensation expense. Identify and supervise approved implementation of plans and programs designed for ensuring quality of all aspects of the Company’s Return to Work program and related Workers Compensation benefits.
  • Manage the Workers’ Compensation Risk Analysts and supervisory staff. Responsible for the performance and development of each direct report.
  • Manage the WCRAs in facilitating the management of all Work Comp claims in Off Work or Restricted status until the claimants return to full duty. Manage the Company’s RTW and workers compensation programs to ensure optimal claim outcomes. Ensure experienced and knowledgeable adjusters are in place and actively managing claims.
  • Engage Company leaders and process partners to champion cost savings, program efficiencies, and opportunities for improved WC claim outcomes. Function as a liaison to WCRAs, TPA, Labor, Legal, Security and Field Management to resolve issues and identify opportunities. Direct projects leading to improved efficiencies for the operating companies around claims handling and processing.
  • Direct Claim File Strategy Reviews with all stakeholders to ensure claims are progressing towards optimal outcomes and are appropriately reserved and resourced. Participate with WCRAs, TPA and YRCW Customers and stakeholders in countrywide claim file reviews as warranted.
  • Oversight to the Employee Management Program (EMP). Support operations, human resources, labor and safety.
  • Ensure Temporary Modified Work Program (TMW) is implemented and managed per established protocol at all operating companies.
  • Hire, train, and develop Workers’ Compensation Risk Analysts and other staff as appropriate.
  • Oversee, summarize and track monthly reporting requirements relating to audits of the TPA to ensure accurate and timely processing of workers’ compensation claims in accordance with YRC Worldwide Best Practices and individual states laws; compliance; adjuster inventory levels; settlements versus exposure.
  • Participate in actuarial review process.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business or related field or an equivalent combination of experience.
  • Seven (7) years of experience with workers’ compensation claims processing in multiple states.
  • Three (3) years of supervisory/management experience.
  • Familiar with government regulations regarding workers’ compensation in multiple states.
  • Demonstrated project management skills.
  • Demonstrated organizational and prioritization abilities.
  • Demonstrated presentation and facilitation skills.
  • Excellent oral, written and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficient using MS Office applications (Word, Outlook, Coupa and Excel).

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Familiarity with the transportation industry and labor environment
  • Familiarity with Return to Work programs
  • Professional certification and/or designation (ARM, AIC, CPCU, etc)

WORKING CONDITIONS

This job operates in a professional office environment indoors. Routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The position requires the ability to spend long hours sitting or standing while using office equipment and computers. Ability to perform repetitive tasks such as typing and keying. Occasional lifting, pushing/pulling, carrying of 10 lbs of supplies and materials is required.
