Position Description

The duties of Material Handler/Packer provide the first step for the completion of the total door package before shipment to the customer, ensuring the highest quality and care is taken to exceed customer expectations and satisfaction. The employee must use care in selecting the appropriate color, length, and materials for the individual order. Training will be provided in each step process whenever practical. Upon completion of step training, employees must demonstrate competence in performing the job duties.


Major Areas of Responsibility

Major areas of responsibility include, but are not limited to:

  • Safety minded in all work activities; suggest and recommend safety initiatives; commitment to safe work habits, maintaining work are organized aligned with 5S.
  • Review layout and locate correct materials.
  • Pulling and staging and packing the correct materials and quantity of materials for individual customer orders.
  • Reading and understanding the specifics of the job order instructions for individual customer orders.
  • Verifying the accuracy of quantity and quality of incoming deliveries.
  • Labelling every product and placing them accordingly.
  • Identifying, locating, and packing the right products during the delivery process.
  • Keeping a well-maintained and updated account of stock and inventory.
  • Handling returns by completing documentation and other required communication.
  • Keeping all material handling equipment in the best condition by conducting regular maintenance.
  • Conveying purchasing requirements and keeping data on the availability of products in short supply.
  • Collaborating with internal departments to locate missing packages, fix incorrect deliveries and replace damaged products.
  • Understanding daily production goals and work at a pace that meets or exceeds those requirements.
  • Inspecting raw materials to ensure no pre-existing damage or scratches due to defective incoming materials prior to staging.
  • Other duties as assigned by managers.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

This position requires the following essential knowledge, skills, and abilities in order to satisfactorily fulfill the role:

  • The ability to use basic mathematics including fractions for measuring and calculating lengths and widths of materials.
  • Detailed oriented using fine visual and manual skills.
  • The ability to use basic hand tools such as screwdrivers, wrenches, and drills.
  • The ability work in a fast-paced environment for an extended period of time.
  • The ability to read and understand layouts, shop orders and process control documents.
  • The ability to drive a truck and forklift (sit-down and stand-up)

Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Other:
    • Positive attitude; self-motivated.
    • Reliable and well-disciplined; ability to work well with others and follow instructions.

Physical Demands

While performing the responsibilities of the job, the employee is required to talk and hear. This is a walking position for up to 10 hours per day on a concrete factory floor. Ability to lift 30 or more pounds both overhead and at waist level. The position requires continuous moderate or occasional heavy physical activity due to lifting 16’ to 21’ aluminum extrusions onto a rolling cart for up to 10 hours per day. The employee is required to walk, reach with arms and hands. Vision abilities required by this job include close vision.


Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts and vehicles. Exposure to intermediate/loud noise is expected when working in the manufacturing environment. The work environment is climate controlled.
