JOB DESCRIPTION
Position: Meal Delivery Aide
Part-Time (this position requires a criminal record check and drug test)
Reports To: Social Service Director
Salary Range: $13.00 per hour
Normal Hours: Hours will vary according to programmatic needs and will not exceed 28 hours in a week.
Job Summary: A non-skilled position delivering meals to clients in their homes and completion of necessary written documentation. May require limited meal preparation. Requires adherence to all safety and sanitation procedures.
Supervision Received: May work alone or under the supervision of others.
Supervision Exercised: May supervise volunteers and trainees as assigned.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Regular and punctual attendance on the job.
- Reading, writing, and interpretation of written and verbal instructions.
- Complies with CAO’s policy for a drug free workplace.
- Performance of mathematical functions i.e., addition, subtraction, multiplying, and dividing.
- Compliance with all CAO policies, procedures, rules, and regulations.
- Completes applications in writing or in computer for meal programs.
- Visually inspects all written work for correctness prior to completion.
- Picks up meals at CAO Central Kitchen and arranges properly in vehicle.
- Will package meals as assigned and have appropriate count for delivery route.
- Delivers meals to home bound clients throughout Scioto County.
- Drives company vehicles.
- Follows a written schedule for delivery.
- Conducts home visits to interview or take applications from home bound clients.
- Maintains vehicles in a safe and sanitary condition during delivery period including refueling.
- Makes written and verbal referrals to other agencies or to other programs within CAO appropriate to client needs.
- Completes daily written reports of delivery, checklists, and incident reports.
- Maintains written records as documentation of services provided.
- Maintains client files.
- Supervises volunteer workers or trainees as assigned.
- Attends trainings and meetings as required.
- Maintains up-to-date knowledge of all regulations of programs operating within the CAO Social Service Department.
- Keeps all work areas, including company and personal vehicles clean and free of hazards and reports any inability to do so to supervisor.
- Immediately reports any emergency situation with clients, meals, or vehicle to the appropriate supervisor.
- Attends staff meetings.
- Performs other tasks as assigned by supervisor.
OCCASIONAL FUNCTIONS:
- May participate on work-related committees.
- May be required to attend job related trainings locally or out of town (may require overnight stay).
- Makes court appearances on behalf of CAO.
- May pick up or deliver meal supplies.
- Delivers parcels, reports, etc.
- May perform meal preparation as assigned.
- Other related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Valid Ohio Driver’s License, reliable automobile, automobile liability insurance, and a good driving record.
- Ability to read and follow written instructions.
- Demonstrates physical fitness to perform the essential functions of the job.
- Demonstrates ability to lift 50 pounds and carry a minimum of 10 feet.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule.
- One-year experience in the field of social work preferred.
- One-year experience in food preparation preferred.
- Ability to demonstrate good verbal and written communication.
- Legible handwriting
- Good general knowledge of Scioto County roads and Portsmouth City streets.
- Ability to work alone without supervision or with others.
- Ability to make good, sound decisions in the face of emergency situations.
WORK CONDITIONS AND POTENTIAL HAZARDS:
- Work is primarily outdoors exposing jobholder to extremes of temperature, weather, and road conditions.
- There is frequent, personal contact with people; exposure to illness and communicable disease; exposure to people with a wide range of physical and mental disabilities, some are emotionally distraught, communication or memory impaired, confused, and irate, and person under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
- Exposure to garbage.

- Exposure to chemicals.
- Considerable physical efforts in use of hands, arms, legs and back.
- Lifts containers weighing as much as 50 pounds.
- Carries heavy containers various distances.
- May have contact with materials at extremely high and low temperatures.
- Climbs up and down.
- Walks on a variety of surfaces to reach client homes such as dirt, gravel, concrete, grass, etc.
- Must stand and walk for long periods of time on concrete floor.
- Some work may be in an institutional type kitchen involving a variety of equipment that requires safe handling.
- Must sit for long periods of time while driving and may drive various types of motor vehicles on various surfaces, over various types of terrain and in all types of weather conditions for long periods of time.
- Must work in fast-paced environment performing a number of different tasks in a short span of time.
EQUIPMENT OPERATED:
- Various motor vehicles such as automobiles, vans, pick-up trucks, customized meal delivery vehicles, etc.
- Institutional kitchen equipment i.e., gas range, convection oven, mixers, meat slicer, can openers, meal packaging equipment, etc.
- Telephones, pagers, copiers, printers, etc.

- Defensive driving
- Proper lifting and carrying
- First aid and CPR
- Safety training
- Safe food handling
- Serv-Safe Food Certification
- Sensitivity to elderly
- Handling clients in crisis
