Mechanical Engineer - BWX Technologies, Inc. - Mt. Vernon, IN
BWXT is currently seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join its growing team in Mount Vernon, Indiana
Position responsibilities include:
- Demonstrate a questioning attitude, promote safety and maintain a quality driven perspective.
- Design and procure tooling to support fabrication of heavy equipment. Examples of tooling could include: access platforms, machining fixtures & stands, gauges, welding support equipment, lifting & rigging support equipment, unique production solutions, etc.
- Collaborate and conduct reviews with production personnel, end users, weld engineers, and manufacturing engineers to develop concepts for tool designs
- Position utilizes NX heavily to model and develop designs.
- Work with vendor base to obtain pricing and procure tools. Assist through technical issues and act as a liaison for purchasing activities. Conduct "kick-off" meetings with vendors to describe build needs. Maintain dialogue with vendors throughout build process to support any technical hurdles or questions.
- Spend time in production shop to support products, understand build sequence and schedule, and be present to receive feedback on designs.
- Write design reports for tooling designs and also perform peer reviews.
- Approve drawings for tool designs.
- Collaborate with Welding and Manufacturing Engineers to develop concepts for tool design and stay aligned with project schedules.
- Perform structural analysis through hand calculations, MathCAD, FEA and other tools to verify tooling designs.
Required Qualifications:
- A Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or Civil Engineering.
- Experience working with Solid Modeling, preferably NX.
- Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and effectively with both internal and external customers.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
- The ability to obtain and maintain a DOE security clearance is required.
- Must be a U.S. citizen with no dual citizenship.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior experience providing engineering support in a heavy manufacturing environment.
- Prior experience working in discrete manufacturing environments or within the defense industry.
- PE license or working toward PE license.
