The Job

As a Mechanical Engineer, you'll be part of our Engineering team working as an onsite employee. You'll get to:

• Design Components for motors and power tools - plastic parts, stampings, machining, etc. - working closely with component manufacturers along the way to understand their manufacturing processes, then make our designs better to improve cost, quality, robustness, or reduce complexity.
• Design motors and related sub-assemblies - you'll learn and apply Design-for-Assembly and Design-for-Automation principles to ensure that our motors not only meet or exceed all of the product reliability requirements, but also can be assembled consistently and efficiently.
• Develop innovative designs and processes - many engineers on our teams hold multiple patents. You'll dive deep and become a Subject Matter Expert in an innovative and fast-changing field.
• Evaluate the components, sub-assemblies, and motors through simulations and/or tests
• Assemble the prototypes, develop test plans, oversee testing, and perform failure analysis
• Work with multiple engineering teams integrating brushless motors into a variety of products including Power Tools, and Outdoor Lawn Care and Power Equipment
• Interface with many functions of the business, including engineering, marketing, sourcing, and manufacturing
• Domestic and international travel required to visit manufacturing locations, up to 15%.

The Person

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering with up to 3 years of experience.
• Computer Literacy; familiar with 2D/3D CAD (Catia preferred), PLM software (Windchill preferred). FEA software is a plus. Proficient in MS Word, PowerPoint, & Excel
• A demonstrated ability to dissect a problem to find the root cause, design a solution and create a simulation/test method to prove that the issue is really fixed.
• A hands-on approach; you enjoy getting your hands dirty and being involved in building, testing and de-bugging tools throughout the development cycle
• Experience or interest in product development: Design, DFM, DFA, prototyping, root cause analysis, test instrumentation and data acquisition and analysis
• A desire to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, where design cycles are generally less than 2 years
• Excellent communication skills; to clearly communicate with team members around the world, across functions, and across various levels of the organization
