Medical Collections Specialist
Job description
Pathways Neuropsychology Associates provides the finest in mental health care, servicing all residents of Monmouth and Ocean County, NJ, with three offices located in Toms River, Manahawkin, and Freehold. We are seeking a Collections Specialist to work in conjunction with our off-site billing company to ensure all claims are sent correctly, to assist with patient accounts, account analysis, appeals, AR, etc. This is a full-time time position, Monday - Friday. Salary is based on experience. Experience with Merit-Based Incentive Payment System (MIPS) a plus! Please be advised this position does not offer medical benefits.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Ability to verify insurance benefits using Navinet, insurance websites or over the phone
- Obtain WC and PIP authorization requests; review and follow-up on all denials
- Manage client collections/accounts receivables
- Collect required information to have claims reprocessed or appealed; track and resolve claim discrepancies
- Communicates with patients, therapists and front desk staff to document or explain information regarding unpaid and outstanding balances
- Make recommendations for referral to collection agency or courtesy write-off
- Initiate & respond to telephone inquiries from patients regarding credit balances and account issues
- Performs other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- Minimum of two years current experience working with commercial insurance, WC and PIP
- Ability to speak and write in a professional, courteous, and concise manner
- Attention to detail is a must
- Follow up on claims is essential
- Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment
- Experience with billing software is essential
- Ability to exercise initiative, good judgment, and problem-solving skills when investigating and solving problems/patient disputes
